Thank you for taking the time the check out my campaign to
raise funds to begin the process of growing my hunting, fishing, and outdoors
website from the status of a blog to a that of a major online publication.
About the Project
In October of 2012 after years of dabbling as hunting, fishing, and outdoors writer for both print and online publications, I took the plunge and launched an online publication of my own, Lo-fi Gun & Game. The site's mission consists of two parts.
First, I want to provide readers with informative, helpful, articles, on a variety of topics of interest to hunters, anglers, recreational shooters, and outdoor enthusiasts. Article types are mostly how-tos, product reviews, and wild game recipes. Forever absent from the site are divisive opinion-based articles on politics or gloom and doom articles that assert the end is nigh and we all need to stock our bunkers with canned goods and ammo before the zombies get us. Content focuses on self-sufficiency and a DIY mentality for fun and personal fulfillment, rather than due to fear.
Second, I strive to inspire people to get out and enjoy (or try for the first time) hunting, fishing, foraging, recreational shooting, and healthy self-sufficiency in an affordable, safe, ethical, and sustainable manner.
Short term goals
Presently, Lo-fi Gun & Game is a one man, no budget, operation which makes for a very slow growth situation. While site traffic has steadily increased since the launch date, it is not yet at a level that will attract advertisers (all publications live or die by ad revenues). Having funds available to invest in the project will help me accomplish three things.
1. I will be able to purchase better quality photo equipment and upgrade my site's theme which will create a higher quality aesthetic and make for a more pleasant experience for readers.
2. I will be able to fund a steady stream of review and how-to articles that will keep fresh content flowing several times each week.
3. I will be able to pay excellent writers what they are worth to provide fresh voices and a broader range content to the site. At least half of what I raise during this campaign will be dedicated to creating paying gigs for outdoor writers and videographers.
Long Term Goals
Accomplishing the above will put the site on a path toward growth. An increase in quality content will lead to an increase in traffic, which in turn will attract advertisers. Ad revenues can then be invested back into the project. Over time, the site will grow into a major online publication that will continue to provide readers with content of unparalleled quality while also creating steady jobs for a core team of top-notch writers, videographers, and photographers.
