Garry's Battle

Donation protected
Friends, most of you know my brother Garry. My brother is about to commence a 6 month battle of chemotherapy and experimental treatments to combat cancer. I'm proud of him and the strength he is showing to his family and friends.

I have two teenage children, who both love their Uncle to bits. Both of who don't fully comprehend what their Uncle is about to go through. My boys are fascinated with superheroes, like any kid. My eldest asked me, how do you become a superhero? My response was that superheroes aren't real! In hindsight though I've had to evaluate my response. Superheroes are real! You don't need to wear a costume, you don't need a cape and you don't need a secret identity to be a hero. The only thing you need to do is be prepared to sacrifice something of yourself. I'm not talking about much, it can be something small like planning to do one good and selfless deed a day, it can be defending or standing up for someone, it can be carelessly donating a piece of yourself to help someone. Not someone that's asked for your help or someone that expects that they have a certain entitlement to help, but someone that would normally be going through life and doing the best they can.
I love both my brothers, they are my strength and for the better part of my life they have represented the closet thing I have to a family. I hate to think that cancer will take one of them away from me. I'm scared!

I want to show my boys that I can sacrifice something for my brother. To show him that I love him and that I will think of him every day. I will do anything for him and to protect him. Now before I start, I have my own demons. I have been struggling in recent months with depression and PTSD, some of you know and have been very helpful getting me focused. I understand the value of friends and support. With all that said, I'm going to sacrifice part of myself for my brother, I'm going to shave my head every week (number 1) for the 6 months. I may even go the full bald shave. I'm also going to confront my alcohol abuse problem and give it up for the six months. This will be a significant challenge for me, but my sacrifice will remind me of those fighting for their lives, including my brother!

If you want to help Garry, he would never ask for it but, this next six months will financially threaten his livelihood. Plus he will be physically incapable of doing a lot of things around his home.
If you want to help, be a superhero! Share this link and ask your friends to donate $1 to help Garry get through this battle. One dollar each, from all your friends. For a dad, friend, son, uncle and brother who deserves to live. Then you can call yourself a hero!
