Jackie and Gilbert have found a condo to rent right near the old house and the they, Tanya and Michael are moving in this week! Having a soft place to land with their son Andi and his family was great - but they all want to be speaking to each other when all of this is behind them!
All of your donations will really help them get life back to as close to normal as it can be at this point. All the things you take for granted every day, they now have to replace - sheets & blankets, pillows, towels, pots and pans - heck, even salt, pepper, flour, sugar etc! On the bright side - so many of us at this age are left with pretty shoddy versions of the above that we just can't justify throwing out and replacing - so I am almost jealous that she gets to get new stuff!
The mom in me can't help but mourn the loss of all the baby photos, kids first grade handprints, high school medals - all the stuff the insurance company can't possibly cover because they have no monetary value...
Wow - I am amazed and humbled by the generosity I have witnessed here! Thank you to everyone who has contributed!
I just spoke with Jackie - they have not been able to get close to the house yet as there are still some remaining hot spots that keep flaring up. The fire dept cannot touch it as they are still awaiting an investigation by the fire marshal to determine the cause of the fire.
They are so grateful for all of the clothing and toiletry donations - and say at this point cash and gift cards are the best way to help them as they have such limited space at their temporary room at their sons house.
Their attitude is great and they just feel so blessed by all the outpouring of love that they have felt!
In the early morning hours of Dec 28, 2013 Jackie & Gilbert Ortega woke to a fire blazing in their living room of their home in Spring Hill, TN. Within minutes the entire house became engulfed. Everyone escaped thankfully but they have lost everything including a couple of cars, and are left with very little besides the clothes on their backs.
The impact of all of this hasn't even begun to sink in yet - but at the very least they will need to get new clothes for 4 adults and figure out where they will be living in the near future while they work their way through the insurance maze.
