My name is Josh and I consider myself a Jack of all trades and a master of none. I've done just a little bit of everything in my 41 years on this planet, from serving my country in the Air Force and working with people with disabilities to bartending and driving a cab, and I can't think of one passion I've enjoyed more than writing. It's changed my life for the better. It's opened doors I never knew existed and introduced me to people I never would have met. I came upon it later in life than I'd have liked but I just see that as an invitation to make up for lost time. I currently have a collection of short stories that I'm attempting to publish before I commit to the bigger story I want to write.
That story is about the great people in this country that I've connected with over the past few years and the impact they've made in their world and mine. I want to share that story with the world via a few different methods. Ideally, I'd like to write a novel, a la Steinbeck's "Charlie and Me", documenting my travels across the country in an old RV with the world"s greatest traveling companion, Izzy the Wonder Dog. A weekly video update from the road would be uploaded to YouTube so that people could see where the road takes us and follow along. At the end of the trip, the video, stills, and audio from the trip would be used to produce a documentary chronicling the entire journey.
They say there's no time like the present, which is the reason for this campaign. My job as a cab driver ended today (1/15/16) and I take that to mean that the Universe is telling me to get busy living and stop wasting time. That's where GoFundMe comes in. Any and all donations will be used to fund the proposed 7500 mile trip, via gas, food, and occasional RV park fees. Throughout the trip, I'll be updating everyone as to what my furry brown co-pilot and I are up to. The plan includes visiting Habitats for Humanity, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, veteran's organizations, and animal shelters to volunteer and raise awareness of their plights and struggles.
Any amount of donation will be used solely for the trip and all donors will be listed in the credits of the final film project. I'm also intending on having a few regional get-togethers at some of the charities along the way and hope to see some of you there. (P.S. Shoot me a message containing the name of your favorite charity or non-profit and I'll try to put a pin on the map to visit them on the way.)
As a kid, my mom always toyed with the idea of buying an old RV, homeschooling me, and traveling the country. It never materialized then but, with your help, we can make this a reality now. Izzy and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the donations already received and to thank all of you in advance for helping me get my story told.
