A Chance For Riley

Donation protected
Over the last week we have noticed a drastic change in our Border Collie, Riley. She hardly ate, got wobbly and lethargic and then today Kelsey noticed large bumps on her body. We knew something was very wrong and called the vet. We got the devastating news that our sweet girl has lymphoma, a form of cancer.

We were given three options, 1. Do nothing and let it take is course and she would have a couple of weeks left and her symptoms would get worse, 2. High dose steroids, this will maybe buy her an extra month or two and help a bit with the symptoms but has its own side effects, or 3. Chemotherapy, which would give her 1-3 years of good quality life left and help drastically with the symptoms. Our first choice would be option 3 and do the chemo but with Kelsey still not really working we are not able to come up with the funds to do her chemo on our own.
Riley is Kelsey's first dog. She has always been playful and acted like a puppy even when she should have outgrown that stage. She loves to go on walks and hikes and can chase the tennis ball for hours! She is an amazing companion that gives best kisses and cuddles and is a huge part of our family.

In her current state, she doesn't feel like doing anything, eating is even difficult. It is incredibly heartbreaking. Our usually playful and loving dog is incredibly sick. If we were able to get her on chemo treatments Riley would feel like her old self again and be able to enjoy the time she has left. We would have the opportunity to take her to the beach and the park and toss the ball around. She could feel like a puppy again and really have the chance to enjoy the time she has left. Our son will still have time with his favorite pup.

The total cost of the full round of chemo is $2000. In order to get started we need $500. That will cover the first 2 rounds of Chemo and last about a month and a half. So that is what we are shooting for this very moment. Just to get started because time is not on our side.

We know that it is a lot to ask for a "pet", but Riley is far more than our pet. She is our companion. She is a piece of our puzzle and we won't feel complete without her. It is far too early for it to be her time.
