Hi,
My name is Micaela Miranda and I have been working in The Freedom Theatre School since its begining in 2008.
My work in this school, besides training the actors in Movement Analysis, Physical theatre and directing the movement of every play we produce, is developing the pedagogy of this unique school, based in Jenin Refugee camp, that offers the first professional training program in the West Bank for actors.
During these years in The Freedom Theatre, something amazing happened: I have seen and contributed to the transformation of the young 14 year-old kids that had dropped school, that had been taken by the 2nd intifada to the streets and had no hope nor interest in thinking about their future become amazing and demanding theatre professionals.
Our idea of putting them into a demanding and very practical high-level training was working 1000%!! We have watched and facilitated the power of art and theatre!
Once a student said to me: "I used to think always that I wanted to die. Today, I want to live. I want to be a Director and a Playwright." - This student is today a teacher to other students in our school and he is writing our next play to be opened in June!
Since our start, we graduated 16 students by now, many of whom are workingat The Freedom Theatre and in the West Bank theatres and abroad. We have created a team of 3 technicians and are now starting a new stage management team.
We have achieved many success despite the murder of our dear Director Juliano Mer-Khamis.
Today, as part of the planning for the improvement of The Freedom Theatre School, I am starting a new journey: I am going to spend the next 3 years investigating, developing and implementing the pedagogy of our school in Jenin.
My plan is to associate with Theatre Hotel Courage, continuing to develop in the pedagogy of Mask and Analysis of Movement that i started in my school Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris - integrating with my team of teachers and graduate students in it's trainings spread out through 3 years in many different countries in the world.
Besides that I will study to be a certified therapeut of Somatic Experiencing (tm) - a natural aproach to dealing with Post-traumatic Stress Disorders through the body, with which we deal almost everyday in our work in the Occupied Territories of the West Bank.
These trainings will allow me to better develop and deal with the needs of our school in Jenin as well as continuing to be part of the Journey of our new students as we develop more and more our specific innovative pedagogy.
We now aim to be a leading institution in the pedagogy and use of theatre and arts for social change and hope to share it with the whole worlds!
So, I'll be going to Lisbon, Paris and Amsterdam in June and July for the first part of the training, that will be as follows:
Lisbon 28, 29, 30 June - First module of Somatic Experiencing (r)
Amsterdam 2/07 - 13/07 - Trainers workshop of Commedia dell'arte with Theatre Hotel Courage toguether with graduated students and teachers of The Freedom Theatre School.
Paris 14/07 - 26/07 - Assisting teacher at THC Commedia dell'arte International workshop at Lecoq's Lees Studio.
In order to be able to do that, i am fundraising, hoping to raise the total of 7630 USD to cover travel, living expenses and workshops costs.

-the first 2080 USD will allow me to integrate de first two modules of Somatic experiencing training in Lisbon in June 2014.
- when we get to 3280 USD, I'll be able to purchase the flights to Lisbon, Amsterdam and train to Paris from Jenin and back!
- When we reach the goal of 7630 USD I'll have guaranteed the basic cost of living, accomodation in Lisbon,and workshop fees in Paris and Amsterdam for June and July.
