It is not often that you are graced by the presence of a completely
selfless, kind, and compassionate soul. My baby sister, Monica, is that person. Talented
at each and every thing she finds interest in, Monica attracts people
from all walks of life. She is magnetic, and has only the purest
intentions as she finds her way and place in this world.
Seven years ago, Monica's (and our family's) world crumbled. She fell ill with excruciating pains in her limbs that seemed to "set fire" to her entire body. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and her hospital stays provided no answers and little relief. She was the medical oddity. Even the Mayo Clinic could find no diagnosis. At ten years old, Monica lost muscle function and her carefree childhood. The freedom that comes along with being a young one was stolen, and yet, she walked away with the determination to be bigger than her disease.
Two weeks ago, after seven years of thinking we had gotten rid of that devilish nonsense, Monica found herself back in the hospital. She is now in the ICU, on and off medication's that provide no long term relief. The physical pain, the emotional torment, and the agony of the unknown (there is still no diagnosis) wears us all thin. And yet, Monica fights on because what she is made of, is something that most of us are not.
As our family fights alongside Monica, and as she continues struggling to get through each day, the medical bills are once again creeping up into numbers we hardly recognize. With a father that must support his family by working away from home six days a week, a mother that stays by her side, and the constant requirement of close medical attention, the looming raincloud of the bills lingers near.
With your donation, you can help bring some much needed relief. Although we cannot physically cure her, we can help ease the minds of my parent's, knowing that their sole focus can be on my sister ... and not the numbers that will soon be coming in the mail.
