I have been presented with a life-changing opportunity. I have been accepted into highly selective and highly intensive school called Dev Bootcamp. During the program I will learn the necessary skills to land an amazing job in web development. This opportunity will play a critical role in the future of my family and I. This is truly the chance of a lifetime.
I need your help in raising $11,700. The tuition will be $11,700 (I get a $500 discount because I'm a veteran). Any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately federal student aid isn't an option because to them it isn't technically a "school".
I learned quite early that I would never amount to much. I come from a family with a disabled father and disabled brother, and had to fend for myself for much of my life. I was diagnosed with ADD at an early age, and have had quite a struggle ever since. I have always excelled in certain areas, like math and science, and am extremely logical, but my ADD made it extremely difficult for me to stay focused. I ended up quitting high school and joined the U.S. Army. The military taught me the proper discipline, work ethic, and focus that I needed to help me combat my ADD.
After the Army, I realized that I was going to have a very hard time finding a career without a college degree. I took every job I was offered, and have done everything from security to dog walking. It seemed like I was doomed to work mundane and monotonous jobs that did not utilize my brain at all. Low-income, paycheck-to-paycheck living seemed to be my future.
Lately, however, my outlook has changed. About four months ago, my fiancée introduced me to the idea of computer programming. I was intrigued. I began learning coding on websites like teamtreehouse.com and codepen.io. Normally with my ADD, I have quite a scatterbrain. I never stick with one thing long enough to really see what I'm capable of, and I give up at the first sign of difficulty. However, since I began learning to code and program, I have experienced something I never thought possible:I desperately want to pursue coding and learn as much as possible! I am obsessed with coding! I began reaching out to successful coders and developers to see if it was possible for me to break into this industry.
My recent journey into the web development world has been humbling and inspiring. I have met with some very interesting and influential people in the industry, including CEO's and Senior Developers, who have introduced me directly to their colleagues. One meeting has led to another simply because these amazing leaders have believed in me. This is how I was finally introduced to Dev Bootcamp.
So here I sit at destiny's door. All I need is some help to push me over the threshold. Please consider donating to my cause. You will not only be helping me, but also my family.
