Basalt High School Peace Garden
Donation protected
I am a sophomore at Basalt High School in the mountains of western Colorado and I have a dream. I am in the process of creating a safe and quiet place for our students called “The Peace Garden.” The idea for the garden came from my and other students’ experiences with not fitting in at school and needing a space for peace and reflection. The garden will be located adjacent to the school’s library. A professional landscaper has created a plan for the garden that incorporates low water use and drought tolerant plants. I hope to have my project completed in April of 2016.
So far, I have received $3,500 in funding from three local organizations—the Dream Project, the Snowmass Chapel and, the Schuss Foundation. I have also received over $28,000 of in-kind donations from local construction and landscaping companies to build the garden. Fifty of our school’s students will volunteer their time for three days to work on the garden.
In order to complete the garden, I need $10,000 for labor and plants.
I hope you will consider donating to my meaningful project.
