Cancer Benefit: 50 Shades of Pink

Introduction

Hello everyone and thanks for looking at my page! My name is Brandon Jordan, I am 21 a year old student at San Joaquin Delta College here in Stockton California. I've always beleived its important to give back to the community and if you are able to help those whom need then do what you can. Which is why I want to start a new event on campus called, 50 Shades of Pink: Every Ribbon Tells A Story.

50 Shades of Pink is a cancer benefit concept I thought of that supports The American Cancer Society(ACS) research and health awareness. The event will be held on campus open to the public. Public speaking, information and resources will be available at the event from ACS. San Joaquin Delta College Nursing Program also will be providing nutritionist, coping and resource information. This event gives opportunity to unsigned music artists who are interested in participating as live entertainment for the evening. Lastly we also invite anyone and everyone who would like to tell their story to the world, of the journey they went though or any advice to others they would like to give. I believe this event would possibly have the potential to impactly improve Stockton for the better and I'd love to hopefully be able continue this annually. While trying to bring this big idea to Delta College, I am prepared to run into obstacles such as approval, funding, catering, advertising, and support from the community. I've chose to set this up early in the year to have time and careful planning for everything to fall into place as it should, but still need help from anyone who's willing to give it!!

As soon as I came up with the idea, my comittee and I have been planning, having frequent meetings and finding as many fundraising opportunities much as possible to raise the funds to host such an event before October 2015. However, we will not make our goal fundraising on campus alone. An event such as this would require guest speakers, publicity costs, catering costs, decorations, and any fees we may encounter hosting such an event. All profit from online donations will be combined with what we make that night on campus and will be donated to The American Cancer Society.

Why am I doing this?

I was always taught to help those whom need it, and that you can do anything you set your mind to. I have never had a proper growing up enviornment and the only supportive person I could look up to is my grandmother. She has miraculously helped so many people throughout her life without asking for much to anything in return and also help myself by taking me in when I was abandoned. With her being my adoptive mother, the only positive influence through childhood into adulthood, she unexpectedly has had cancer 4 different times within the last couple of years. Breast cancer and thyroid. I know she is the motivation why I am the person I am for the better and first in our family to go to college and give me the opportunity to live my life. Her mother, my great grandmother recently passed away earlier this year due to liver cancer in May 2015. She would have been 89 this year in September. I've been raised by these two women my whole life and theirs no day that goes by I don't think about them in some way. I miss her tremendously and think about her everyday but im am so thankful I had my great grandmother in my life and they are both the drive of how I thought of this event.

I've never done anything like this before but I have no doubt that this event is possible and has potential. Cancer can affect us ALL. No one should have to fear loosing the people they love and care for to this, if I could do anything to make a difference then I beleive this would be the start of it in the right direction. Thank you everyone who clicked to read my cause! I really appriciate it.
