I'm 23 and have been out and on hormones for about 9 months now - and it's an incredible journey - but as a broke college student, hormones are all I can even afford. As you may or may not know, there are also a lot of surgeries involved in passing completely, and the one major thing holding me back right now is my voice and neck area.
There is a surgery to raise the pitch of a voice - and safely, mind you, since there have been numerous advances lately - along with getting rid of my adam's apple once and for all. Those two things can be done at the same time, and would make me pass 100% as a female in public, instead of just passing until I open my mouth.
The problem is insurance does not cover any of these surgeries and I have no way of getting the money - it's actually legal in Wisconsin to fire someone simply because they're transgender, and getting a job is insanely hard. That's why I came here - This is essentially my only way of becoming who I am physically for the foreseeable future. Any donation will help!
