For over 11 years, Anthony has enjoyed taking part in Special Olympics GB in the South East Ski Group and has won gold medals at several competitions. Although Anthony enjoys the sporting activity on offer, he takes great pleasure in being part of the Special Olympics community, and making friends with other athletes.
For Anthony, the competition isn’t just about winning, it’s about improving his skiing technique, training with his team and visiting new places. He understands that winning medals comes after hard work.
Anthony has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Alpine Skiing competition at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria in 2017, one of the biggest events in the Special Olympic global calendar which will attract over 3,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from over 110 countries.
For the athletes, going to the Games is not only about participating in their chosen sport: it’s about meeting athletes from around the world, making new friends, having fun, daring, improving their health and challenging preconceptions about people who have an intellectual disability.
