One of the main reasons we are initiating this project is to bring information and awareness regarding the plight of the honeybee and its relationship to our well being. This project is not about any group of individuals. It is about initiating the solution to what many perceived now as a dire planetary problem.
Albert Einstein, once said "if the honeybees ever disappear, humankind would follow within 5-6 years afterward.
Honeybees are dying worldwide at such an alarming rate that we might have arrived at the crisis point that Einstein spoke about so many years ago. No one can dispute that the evolution of the honeybees and humankinds' destiny are irrevocably linked. Honeybees are critical, to our agriculture food production (pollination), medicinal applications (bee venom therapy) and to our overall ecological balance.
The Save the Honeybee Project (SHP) is an attempt to provide the solutions to this dilemma. The task is for us to work together to find workable solutions to these acute problems facing our planet. We will begin at the grassroot level and look for support and guidance on the local, regional, national and international levels.
Finally, the SHP is about citizen awareness and community power in action. It is a battle cry for we the informed citizen and others who seek mobilize. Our very existence is at stake. Generations will inherent the world that we leave behind - for better or worse. Through the SHP we can and will make a difference. The time is truly NOW!
GOALS:
-Create 1,000,000 new hobbyist beekeepers (over next 10 years)
-Create 100,000 new commercial beekeepers (over next 10 years)
-Business beekeeping supply stores
-New Organic Bee breeding programs
-Education on dangers of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)
-Education on GMO honeybees and other insect organisms
-Africanized Honeybee Safety Programs (website)
-Community Beekeeping/University Academic Programs
-Development of Youth Beekeeping Programs
-Beekeeping University
-Social Media Links (Facebook, Twitter)
-Mentoring
-Template Program Development
-Beekeeping Club Information Exchange Network (local, nat, international)
