911 Dispatcher Needs Help!

Donation protected
Our communications center is like a family. Working 12 hours a day (or night) means we see each other more often than our "real" families, spend holidays together, get through tragedies together, laugh often and even sometimes argue. Our job isn't easy, but if it wasn't for the backbone of our communications center, things would be much harder. Cheryl, a Communications Center Supervisor, makes up a large chunk of that backbone for our dispatchers. As a single mother to 7 children of her own flesh, Cheryl is a master of all things maternal - being supportive, available, sensitive, a quick thinker and a disciplinarian when necessary. Some of us have even referred to her, when speaking to one another, as our Mama Bear. She is a fantastic supervisor. Without her, many of us would have not made it where we are now, and for some...not even through training. She is very special to our communications center and a real asset to the emergency medical field in general.

Bad things happen to good people though. Unfortunately, as of late, it seems to happen mostly to Cheryl. In the last year alone that I have worked for our center, Cheryl has suffered a heart issue (and in a true motherly, selfless manner, she calmly and quietly - as to not alarm us trainees - notified another supervisor that she thought she was having a heart attack), a terrible car accident with one of her children and most recently found out while on duty at work that her entire house was engulfed in flames. Luckily, her children did get out of this fire safely, but as Cheryl raced home and we dispatched ambulances in her direction, we became more and more aware of the severity of the situation - our Mama Bear's den was being completely destroyed by the flames. To suffer such a loss at any point in time is terrible enough, but to go through it right before the holidays must be unbearable. Our hearts are broken for her.

We want to help her, because that's what family does. So here we are, reaching out to the very public that Cheryl has dedicated her life to protecting as an Emergency Dispatcher. We've also reached out on our Facebook pages for things like clothing, gift cards, etc...but thought we'd have better luck on a bigger forum - so here we are. Cheryl will be starting from scratch. Not only will she need to rent a new home as soon as possible, but she will need to rebuild the inside as well - from furniture and dishes, to clothing and simple everyday supplies, she will be starting from a place she probably hasn't been at in a very long time.

Any donations would be appreciated, by so many. Not just by Cheryl and her children, but by the 60+ other dispatchers that work in our center, the management team, Field Supervisors and all of the Paramedics, Nurses and EMTs that have come to know and love Cheryl over the years. Your contribution is deeply appreciated.

Thank you so much for reading.
