As of today, Flintopia has been operational for almost 8 months! The initial funding for our Summer program came out of our own pockets, and we were happy to do it! Altogether, we spent over $40,000 of our own money.
We wanted to wait until we had something solid to show for ourselves before asking for contributions, and we do. We have officially purchased the old bank building on the corner of Broadway and Lewis, only 2 blocks from the Flintopian boundary line. Therefore, our new address is: 2002 Lewis St Flint, MI 48506
Our plan is to turn this building into our official headquarters AND to use it as a warming center for the homeless during the Winter. Needless to say, the costs are mounting.
When everyone who sees this gives $20, $10, or even $5, we will be well on our way to solidifying our presence on the Eastside of Flint. Thank you in advance!
So, what are we spending our money on? Here are the major expenses:
$10,000 - the Bank building
$2700 - back taxes on the Bank Building
$4000 - processing fees for 30+ land applications
$8000 - utilities for one year
***city of Flint raised water costs 110%***
$900 - processing fees to establish 501c3/nonprofit organization
We set our goal at $10,000 even though this won't exactly cover our expenses; however, it will be a great start! We do not foresee asking for contributions regularly, since we are in the process of working with grant institutions in the City of Flint, such as the Ruth Mott Foundation. Soon, the day will come when we start receiving grants regularly; and, the contribution you make today will help us establish ourselves as a serious organization that is ready to accept grants for public works projects in the city of Flint!
Eastside, here we come!
