Join in supporting Izabela's second fight against cancer!
Izabela (Izzy) Clark is an a fun-loving 5 year old little girl who is always smiling. With a you can't knock me down attitude and a undeniable appreciation for life. Izzy is the daughter of Cory and Katie Niedbalski-Clark and has been battling cancer since shortly after her 2nd birthday in January 2010 she developed a limp in her right leg. Her limp continued to get worse and eventually she did not want to walk at all because of the pain. After many tests she was sent to Omaha Children's Hospital where they diagnosed her with A.L.L. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The chemotherapy treatments were started right away that day and she showed good progress. On April 1, they were discharged from the hospital but stayed in town because of Izabela's first outpatient treatment coming up in a few days. The day following Izabela's first outpatient treatment she developed a fever. She developed a fever. So she was taken back to the hospital and was admitted so she could receive IV antibiotics. That night at the hospital her blood pressure dropped and they were not able to stabilize it. She was transferred to the PICU. The next day(Wednesday April 7) Izabela coded twice. That night she was placed on an ECMO machine to give her heart and lungs a rest. She was responding well to the chemotherapy and her leukemia was almost gone but with her compromised immune system the infection ran her ragged. But she is a fighter and she did all her chemo treatments and was in remission until February of this year when the cancer came back. She then began her chemotherapy treatments for the second time in March and was admitted on July 5, 2013 to start her bone marrow transplant. Which came from her little sister Aurora's banked cord blood from birth, as she was a perfect match! Her transplant was July 11th and she did well during the transplant with no complications! Now she has began the long recovery progress. As the new bone marrow needs time to grow back healthy and strong!! Since Izzy's relapse in February she has spent 50% of her time in the hospital or at outpatient appointments.
And on August 18th Izzy was discharged from the hospital and moved over to the Lied Nebraska House attached to the hospital. Izzy is now recovering at home with NO TUBES! Thank God! She is now 100+days after her bone marrow transplant and is doing amazing she is down to 5 morning meds and 3 night time meds. IZZY GOT THE OKAY TO RETURN TO SCHOOL!! :D We are just so excited that the Clark family is all home together again and Izzy is doing amazing!
My name is Valerie and I would like to go into more detail as to how I know the family and why I would like to help more. Here is our story..
Back in March of this year my friends the Ball family also had a young daughter who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. And I had posted a picture of Jacey on my facebook page asking for prayers when Cory and Katie(Izabela's parents) offered Jacey and her family support during this horrible time in their lives. When Izzy is now going on her second battle. And I am so thankful that they were willing to be there for strangers, only to find out they weren't.. Katie, Jessica(Jacey's stepmom) and I all used to work at Target many years ago. Needless to say I was blown away by their selflessness and knew I had to do something to help. So I had a small fundraiser for both Jacey and Izabela. But there is still more I can do. Thank you for supporting Cory, Katie, Izabela and Aurora Clark.
