Save Three Cheers For Third Careers

Donation protected
If you know me, you know I have largely based my life around my love and devotion to horses, horse rescue and horse racing; you likely also know that I am NOT one to ask for help or reveal hardship, With that said, I have exhausted my personal resources and I am humbly creating this fundraiser to raise the money to secure the future home for my race horse rescue, Three Cheers For Third Careers, and my three horses, Bondsman (a former racehorse & the love of my life), Otis (my deceased stepdad's retired Quarter Horse) and Banzai, the first horse recued through Three Cheers For Third Careers and the inspiration for its namesake.

Without going into great personal detail, my beloved family farm, which was the home to the rescue and my horses, was sold without my knowledge. With less than two weeks notice of having to relocate, I have been at risk of losing my horses and rescue. Serendipitously, I have been fortunate to reconnect with a former employer who is a rescue advocate and just so happens to be selling her farm at a modest price. She has extended a unique and helpful offer to me to purchase the farm and relocate my horses and all belongings by the closing date on my family farm, which is September 25 (just 3 days away).

To date, Three Cheers For Third Careers has been able to facilitate in part, or wholly, the fundraising for the "bail", shipping and quarantine costs, and locating permanent homes through my professional and social networks for former racehorses whose "second careers" off the racetrack placed them at auctions that are known slaughter pipelines. Sunny Defrere, or Banzai, as he is now called, the first horse I rescued in 2013 (and own) and the inspiration for the creation of Three Cheers For Third Careers, is a New Jersey bred Thoroughbred who had a modest career on the track with one win. After his racing career ended, he was given to a hunter jumper barn to be a schooling horse. Due to his rising insurance premiums because he is blind in one eye, he was placed in an auction that would've resulted in his slaughter had he not been adopted. When I received him from quarantine, his already declining health had deteriorated further, as he had halter marks covering his face, rain rot covering his entire body from ear tip to tail, and had well over 300 lbs. to gain. Today, through trial and error, the realization of undisclosed former injuries that have made him unsound for any strenuous riding activities and bad habits (can you say cribber?!), he is happy and healthy. Banzai is a Japanese cheer meaning "long life" that is traditionally repeated three times to express enthusiasm and to celebrate a victory and favor, hence the name, Three Cheers For Third Careers.

It is my mission to continue rescuing racehorses like Banzai who have fallen through the cracks after their second careers, and find them permanent homes where they can continue to be riding horses or pasture companions, with a focus on finding placement for them in therapeutic riding programs for disabled veterans or incarcerated or troubled youth and adults. The new farm site will allow me to personally rehabilitate or retrain rescued horses prior to their placement in these types of programs. It will also provide temporary homes for rescued horses needing quarantine before shipping to their adopters. Trailer parking and overnight accommodations will also be offered for anyone passing through the area hauling horses from known killer buyer auctions.

I need to raise $10,000 by October 31 to secure the deposit on the new farm location for Three Cheers For Third Careers and relocation expenses. In addition to this page, I will also be posting Ebay auctions with sports memorabilia (mostly horse racing related) from my personal collection and other items that have been generously donated, with all proceeds going towards my goal. I will post the links to these auctions as they become available. If there is an item you would be interested in but don't see listed, let me know and I may be able to locate it for you. I am always open to receiving additional items for auction as well.

If the least you can offer is a prayer and/or a share of this cause, I am grateful. No donation is too small and is not taken lightly or for granted. On behalf of the horses and myself, I appreciate you for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance for your support!
