Unbelievable! With nine days to go before my surgery is scheduled, you all helped me raise $10,000. I am simply stunned. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I will keep you all updated as things progress in the coming days. I would love to raise more, so I'm still taking donations and not closing the fundraiser yet. There are many, many costs associated with surgery and my ongoing health care needs, but as for right now I am just going to enjoy this, and the friendships and support and love you have all shown to me.
Here we are, with eleven days to go. I am happy and nervous and excited, and still really thrilled and impressed and blown away by the generosity of all of you who have donated to help make this a reality for me.
I changed this fundraiser goal to $10,000, which will cover many of the actual surgery-related expenses, and so that I can have a chance to complete the goal before surgery. Currently, I need to raise just over $800 more in order to complete this goal.
Can you help me to make this happen? If you've already donated what you're able, or if you aren't able to donate, can you please help me by signal-boosting my fundraiser? Every little bit will help! Thank you!
Hi everybody! Eighteen days to go, and you all have helped me fund nearly 44% of my surgery costs via GoFundMe. I am honored and humbled to have such wonderful friends and supporters in my corner as you.
If you haven't received your copy of my book yet, that's because we actually ran out of the first printing, and Vatichtov, the small press we founded, has to get a second printing done! That's awesome and exciting, and we hope to have it done in the next couple of days, so fear not"”more personalized copies are on their way!
Alexa and I are making our surgery travel plans. The date, March 13, is coming up in only eighteen days. I am nervous and excited and happy and terrified and basically having Lots Of Emotions. But I really am, above all, grateful for the support you all have shown me. I wouldn't be here without you, and I wouldn't have been able to do this if you hadn't all come along with me.
Hi everybody! I am thrilled to announce that the first copies of my new book, Ein Self, have been printed and shipped! Those of you whom I don't see regularly in person should be getting them in the mail very soon. Those of you I do see in person, I'll give you your copy, well, in person.
Are you excited? Because I am!!
I am really happy that this book is now a reality. Like, with words and paper and a cover and everything! Thank you all of you who helped make this project real. :D
It's been two and a half weeks, and I'm over one-quarter of the way to my goal! Once again I am stunned and amazed at the generosity and kindness of my friends and acquaintances. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far"”you should be receiving your first round of thank-you postcards soon!
One week update: I can't believe I've raised over 17% of my goal so far. That's over $3,000! Unbelievable. Thank you to everyone who's donated so far: you should have received e-cards of thanks, and I will begin sending out postcards in the mail tomorrow. I'm really privileged to know so many awesome people and to count you all as my friends. Thanks!!
I can't believe it. The fundraiser has been live for less than a day and I'm already at 5% of my goal. That's nearly a thousand dollars. I am happy and stunned and grateful and just"¦wow. Wow. Thank you everyone so far!!
I am a transgender, autistic, Deaf, awesome woman.
I work as a rabbi, focusing on creating innovative yet traditional Jewish law, liturgy, and ritual, in order to celebrate and affirm trans identities and experiences. I also work on advocating for people with both visible and invisible disabilities in both Jewish and secular contexts. My first book, Ein Self, a collection of personal essays and poetry exploring my transition so far, has just been published!
I am planning to have vaginoplasty in early 2014. While no surgery is "necessary" to change genders, this surgery will help immeasurably to alleviate much of the dysphoria I have felt every day for the last twenty-odd years. Sadly, health insurance almost never covers medical treatment for transgender individuals, and "elective" surgeries like this one are unbelievably expensive. That's why I am asking for your help.
Your donation will help me access medical treatment, but more than that, it will help me continue to do the work and fight for the causes to which I am devoting my life. Please donate as you are able; it means the world to me.
