I am dealing with advanced Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS) requiring daily care which has become a financial burden that I can no longer afford on my own. So this is why I am here on GoFundMe requesting donations towards my caregiving bills. My insurance covers 32 hours of caregiving a week, but beyond that I must be able to find my own caregivers for the remaining 30 hours that I need each week. Any donation you can offer is greatly appreciated.
PPMS is described as a PAC-MAN attacking my central nervous system which controls my muscles; the destruction has left me with only the use of my head and neck. Therefore, I only have the ability to instruct my caregivers and share my thoughts, but touch is now one-sided.
I was diagnosed in 1992 when I was 44 years old and now 25 years later my body has succumbed to the disease which makes me dependent on others 24/7.
My biggest community contribution has been my role as a support group leader, volunteer and fundraiser for the North Florida Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. However, I am no longer able to participate due to my increased need for physical assistance. However, I do try to be a cheerleader at fundraising events.
Even with my inabilities, I continue to enjoy my life. I’m actively involved in my church, attend local events, participate in adaptive sports, socialize, and share my lifetime experiences with the community at large. However, the quality of life that I currently enjoy requires the hands and strength of my caregivers.
My caregiving needs at this time are comparable to what a baby would require. What differs is the fact that my brain is still very much in tact. Therefore, I must challenge my mind each and every day through online interactions, email interfacing and various computer brain games.
The cost involved for my caregiving here in Jacksonville, Florida is enormous and neverending. True, I could go to a nursing home but that is not how I want to live my life. I just need that extra bit of help each month to pay for those evening and weekend hours not covered by insurance.
Please consider this plea so that I can continue my quality of life and avoid living in a nursing home.
