Women in Racing : Team MUSE

Donation protected
WE NEED YOUR HELP! We have three ladies with a passion to get involved in racing who are raising money to drive their first Sports Car Club of America Hillclimb June 22 and 23, 2013. Josie Pierce, Kat Karns and Jessica Hunter have a passion for cars and driving. It has lead them to autocrossing, track days and time trials. They would like to take the next step... racing in the SCCA Dragon Hillclimb in Robbinsville, North Carolina June 22-23, 2013 - full details at www.dragonhillclimb.com . They will be competing in a C Street Prepared Mazda Miata named GRENDEL. The car is equipped with race seats, 6 point harness, Hard Dog roll bar, competition suspension with Kumho race tires. The car has been donated to the ladies for the event by The Southern Driver but there are still expenses, entry fees and Nomex suits to purchase. Your donations to this cause can help inspire more women to get involved in racing!

Here's some information on our drivers :

Josie Pierce - Asheville, NC 26 Daily Driver : Honda S2000
"I have always had a passion for cars. No two cars are the same; every one of them reflects its owner's personality and love of the sport they are in. Whether it is old school American muscle and classics, or import track, rally and drift cars, they all have an individual style and flare. I love that a car considered an underdog can go from incapable and under-powered, to a lean, mean driving machine, and hold its self at the top of its class. There is no limit in the car world and there's no one right way to achieve your goals and hopes for your car and your future. As for racing, from the time I was little I have always loved racing. I used to play racing video games with my brother or pretend to race in the kitchen chairs and rolling computer chairs. I loved watching formula and rally racing any time they came on TV. Since I started driving my mom's nick name for me became Mario Andretti, she would always say I was racing everywhere even if it was just time I was racing against. It's an art form to me, a way of expression and freedom. It's like a ballet but instead of tutu's and parallel bars, there are fire suits and switchbacks. Racing is a part of my past, it's what I grew up with and it will be a part of my future until the day I leave this earth."

Kat Karns - Piedmont, SC 21 Daily Driver : Mazda Miata
"Before coming to Clemson and joining the Clemson Sports Car Club I had no experience with any kind of performance driving. I had always liked cars growing up but had other obligations that prevented me from exploring the interest any further. After seeing some CSCC displays set up around campus my first week at school, I had to see what it was all about. I knew immediately after my first(and pretty terrible) showing at my first autocross that I had fallen in love with the sport, I had to have more! Since getting involved, I have enjoyed autocrossing fairly regularly as well as some karting, I was even fortunate enough to have the opportunity to drive at a Time Trial event last year. I continue to fall more in love with the racing culture with every event. There's just something about the the sounds and smells, the adrenaline rush, and the wonderful people you meet at the events that makes all of this so incredible."

Jessica Hunter - Hickory, NC 21 Daily Driver : Mazda Miata
"I think the thing I love most about competitive driving is the personal growth I experience from the sport. When racing, I am constantly pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone. Racing is a very exhilarating sport that also brings out my competitive nature, which makes me push myself to become a better driver. I love the atmosphere at the race tracks. Everyone is always super friendly and helpful. Other drivers will go out of their way to help each other, even if they are competing against each other. Everyone has always been very encouraging towards me, and never said anything negative about my performance. And, of course I love the ability to go as fast as I possibly can without getting penalized for it. The day I decided to race, was when I attended my first hill climb at Wolf Ridge in Mars Hills, NC. I was driving up the mountain to meet my parents myself on the way up "Hey! This is actually pretty fun, I want to do this!" Then began the long process of getting the correct licensing and experience necessary to run a hillclimb. Now five years later, I am finally reaching my goal of running my first hillclimb. I wouldn't have this opportunity today if it wasn't for all the help and encouragement so many people gave to me. I have to thank all of my family and friends for everything they have done to make this happen. I am so thankful and appreciative to each and every one of them."

These three ladies have a dream of competing at their FIRST Hillclimb and continuing to pursue racing. Your gracious donations can make this possible. Thank you for support and please know, we will do all we can to be safe, competitive and to encourage other women to get involved in racing ... early enough that they have the opportunity to find their passion while they are still young enough to develop skills and excel in the world of motorsports. THANK YOU!
