The Portrait of a Brave Woman Project

This July, I plan to visit the Muanjadi High School, a women's secondary school in Mbuji Mayi, Democratic Republic of Congo. While I'm there, my goal is to get to know some of the students, as well as to talk with them about what they think the best ways to help their communities might be.
I hope to make a short documentary about each student I work with, each of which will ultimately aim to present her idea for community improvement and express why this idea is important to her. Back in the US, I will use these documentaries to reach out to local artists; I hope to connect a couple of artists to each documentary (and the cause it represents). Participating artists will create a series of works about the cause, the proceeds of which will go towards both the cause itself and the educational goals of the student behind the idea.
I think this idea has the potential to create sustainable positive change, both in Mbuji Mayi and in the US, and I would be forever grateful for any help in funding its initial stage!
