Tia Needs Your Help

We are the foster parents for Tia, a six and a half year old female St. Bernard, for the Missouri St. Bernard Rescue.  You can visit them on Facebook at SDC Saint Bernard Rescue-Missouri.  She came to us after having a rough start, she was afraid to leave the house and was very sensitive to loud voices (especially a loud male voice).  Since that time, she has opened up to be this sweet, patient, kind, loyal and beautiful mature lady, who will run to welcome you when you walk in the door. Surprisingly, she was very healthy when she came to us, especially for her age and the circumstances she was in.  After being with us for about a month, she has became il 4 days after being spayed.  She was lethargic, wasn't eating, was unsteady and appeared to be confused.  The vet could not find anything on the initial blood work and she was sent home with anti-inflammatories and antibiotics.  The next morning, she collapsed as we were bringing her outside.  After helping her up and helping her outside, she had 3 episodes where it appeared that she was hallucinating.  She was angry-afraid of something behind her that wasn't there that she was trying to fight off.  She had another of these episodes when we finally got her back into her crate.  The episodes didn't last long, but, were very puzzling.  We took her back into the vet, where she proceded to have another episode.  They did a more extensive blood work up and found that her blood glucose was only at 29 (normal is 74-140); and, we were quite lucky that she wasn't in a coma.  Currently, they have her on IV fluids with glucose to get her levels back up and will keep her over night.  If she is doing well in the morning, they will then take her off the glucose to see if her levels drop or hold steady.  We are currently asking for help for the St. Bernard Rescue to help cover Tia's current vet bills.  If her levels drop, she will be referred to the University Vet Hospital for an MRI of her pancreas; which will substantially increase the total for her vet bills, but for now, we are hoping that they can get some help for the bills she has already incurred.  Please consider helping this beatiful girl who is so deserving of a better life than what she has had.
