OBOSI TOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY DRIVE:
My last visit in November 2010 to my home town Obosi, in Anambra state, Nigeria was a sobering experience. The dilapidated state of one of the primary schools brought me to tears. The school had missing zinc roofing, wooden desks/chairs with missing and broken parts. The teachers kept class attendance on a chalkboard that lacked common eraser. School children lacked textbooks and their best knowledge of what a computer looked like was a hand drawing of a computer by a teacher who had no access to a computer. Talk about the blind leading the blind.
On my return to the United states after spending 6 months in Nigeria, I have come to the conclusion that waiting on the Government to equip schools in the rural area and even in the so called developed areas (african standard) is nothing but a pipe dream. Most of the people in position of power are merely after their own selfish aggrandizement at the detriment of the poor and less privileged in the villages.
The deplorable condition of primary and secondary schools in Obosi have moved me to donate a plot of land towards building and equipping a Public Library that would benefit the school children of Obosi. The first phase of the Obosi town Public Library Drive is geared towards raising $75,000 to build an eco-friendly solar-powered public library that won't depend on the unreliable electricity supply in the state and country at large. The second face would be equipping the public library with computers, books, magazines and newspapers.
I am using this online medium to appeal to the blessed and generous people to assist me in raising money to actualize this project that would be of immense benefit to the less privileged primary and secondary school children in Obosi. All donation will be accounted for and all spending from the project will be made public. Thank you for your support. God Bless!
