Off grid aquaponics system

Hello dear soul! We are so grateful you are here.

We are in an incredible and quickly changing time in our communities, in our countries, in our world. The ability to create localized, low impact, healthy, and renewable food production in essential for the resiliency of our food security and quality of life. To further facilitate the graceful transition from an unsustainable and globalized food system to an empowered, diverse, and regenerative reality of food production and basic needs creation, the Maya Point Project was created www.mayapointproject.org. The Maya Point Project is a program of the non-profit Food For Generations www.foodforgenerations.com

This project is an off grid experiential learning center and community which focuses on the application and integration of permaculture and holistic systems design. We are located on a small island in the Northeastern Panamanian Caribbean where we operate a communal off grid center where we are working to demonstrate, empower, learn and teach local community members and international interns.

To further the application of localized, low impact, and renewable food production we are in the midst of installing an off grid aquaponics system. An aquaponics system is a method of food production utilizing the symbiotic relationship of fish and plants. This system recirculates ammonia rich water which through a beneficial bacteria process is transitioned to nitrogen rich water, which is uptaken by the plants. The plants then uptake the nutrients, clean and oxidise the water, which then recirculates back into the fish tank. This amazing process creates rapid and organic plant growth, and conserves 90% more water than traditional agriculture.

Our aquaponics system is moving forward very well, with local community members working to create this system alongside our program mamagers and volunteers. We are so blessed to have received such support, collaboration, and success so far. And we are almost there. One of the critical aspects of an off grid aquaponics system is the solar system which is needed to operate the one aspect of the system requiring electricty, the pump. And as we are a budding and unfolding project working to both demonstrate and provide economic opportunity for a number of our community members, we are in need of further currency to complete this system.

We are asking for any donation, any amount of support so we can bring this aquaponics system to fruitition. This system will demonstrate the empowerment and resiliency of regenerative agriculture in an area crushed by food insecurity, inaccess to education, and malnourishment. We are so grateful, so honored, and humbled by your collaboration, your understanding, and support. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.

Sincerely and with respect, Daniel Cherniske, the Maya Point Project, and the local community of Isla Pastor and neighboring islands.
