On the 3rd of August 2016 our world came crashing down. We received the news nobody was prepared for…my wife Tanya was diagnosed with multiple masses Stage 3 – Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.
My beautiful wife had Breast Cancer.
Without time to let this sink in and prepare, what ensued was a physical and emotional roller coaster of doctors visits, hospital appointments, MRI’s, CT scans and blood tests. Our perfectly happy little bubble was filled with shock, fear and an unknown future.
Surgery was the doctors suggestion as the first form of treatment and as the MRI indicated multiple masses, she underwent a full mastectomy of her left breast and 37 lymph nodes were removed. What the doctors failed to tell us was that a major nerve had to be cut and that she would also now going to suffer from lymphedema.
My wife and I are self employed, we don’t have sick pay or holiday allowances to fall back on. As we work in the trade industry we had income protection for myself but it doesn’t cover my wife getting cancer. We rely on each other for our income, I am the brawn and she is the brains. Cancer is already taking a toll on our life, the bills are already mounting up from missed work and our journey has only just begun.
The doctors are preparing us for the next phase of treatment. 6 mths of intense chemotherapy, radiation and 5-10 years of hormone blockers in store. When the Oncologist told me I would have to wear a condom to have relations with my wife I thought what kind of poison are the injecting into my wife!!! We have 3 children, our youngest is only 4 years old. This is my wife’s life they are playing with, the beautiful mother of my children. If she is that toxic from the poison they are injecting her with that it could affect us there is no way we are going down that path without a fight.
Now I have read many articles and spoken to many people about the benefits of natural therapies of diet, exercise, sleep and living a stress free life and of people who have changed their lives from terminal stage 4 to being cancer free years down the track. This is inspiring and it gives us hope. For me to be able to provide my beautiful wife the opportunity to heal and be healthy it is going to be a very expensive, and long journey. To walk away from the hospital system leaves us with absolutely no support, financially or emotionally. We are on our own, and we are desperate to give this a go before we sign away her life to the hospital system with less than a 10% chance of their treatment working. My wife is going to have to give up one of her jobs and eat a consistant diet of organic fruits and vegetables amongst a regime of vitamins and supplements and detox therapies.
That is where I plead with the good community. I love my wife beyond words, there is nothing I want more than to be able to provide her with an environment in which she can rest full of organic nutrient rich food. To lose her would be more than I can bare. To know this woman you would have to understand she has the biggest heart, she always puts others before herself and has spent a lot of time raising money and helping others in need. All the time never expecting a thing in return. If karma was a thing, now is the time to help her in return.
