Build a Disaster Relief Vehicle (DRV)

Donation protected

DRV...A vehicle stocked full of disaster supplies (generators, water pumps, tarps, blankets, solar powered radios) to rebuild any town.

You will be a part of something very special to a lot of people.

END GOAL: Build a DRV (Disaster Relief Vehicle)

For more years than I can remember, I have been building and creating works of art in the form of houses and furniture. It is a deep passion of mine to create things of beauty. However, as I grow older, I realize it is more than that - it is the reaction of others after seeing what I have created that is so enjoyable. One time on a volunteer build for special-needs children in Mt. Wolf, PA, at Leg Up Farm, we built a play set. This was not just a swing and a slide though; this was a ship, a fun house, a tire swing, a rope and plank bridge, a balance beam, a rock climbing wall - you name it, it had it. When it was complete, I hung around for the opening ceremony and the kids rushed the play set with such vigor and zeal; as I watched them, I was experiencing euphoric emotions. I burst into a cry-laugh! Even more than the feeling of making a difference in people's lives and well being, it is giving the people that have lost all hope a sense of hope that is important to me.

Someone close to me asked, "If you want to help, why don't you grab a shovel and dig in?" Puzzled by his question, I replied, "If I show up with just a shovel, at that point, I'm just another mouth to feed." One man, one shovel will make a small difference, but the DRV will have a large impact on rebuilding efforts."

With all the recent devastating storms, I feel compelled to help rebuild and get people and their lives back to normal. This has led me to gofundme. It is time to take the show on the road. With my skills and your help, we will have the ability to now help others when they need us the most. With your pledges to my gofundme campaign fund, we can build a Disaster Relief Vehicle or as I call it....DRV. The DRV will be equipped with all the necessary supplies and tools to help rebuild after any disaster, whether it be a hurricane, flood or God forbid, an F5 tornado like the one in Moore, Oklahoma.

Challenges we may face:

If we are able to reach our goal of $5k we will still have a lot of work ahead of us. The vehicle will have to be outfitted with shelving and compartments to house all the tools necessary for rebuilding the affected areas. With all of our gracious donors, we will need to honor the rewards and ready the vehicle for lettering. Our friends at Gall Laminating Company use high quality vinyl for your company name, logo , or message to ensure long-lasting decals. Keep in mind: when choosing a font or graphic color, you may want it to contrast with the dark color of the DRV.

We would be blessed not to have to put the DRV into use. Let us hope for many years of nonviolent storms such as the likes of Katrina, Super Storm Sandy, or the tornado which so recently devastated areas of Oklahoma. However, just knowing the DRV is complete and ready for any major catastrophe brings a lot of hope for all.

You may be asking yourself, "Okay, how can I help?" At the top of the page, below the video, there will be a series of pledge amounts. Choose the one that best fits your budget and click.

Greg Lyons

Biography of Greg and Greg Lyons Construction.
After all, you can't get one without the other.

Since the commencement of Greg Lyons Construction in 1988, we have always carried a very high level of quality with a methodical approach to all our projects. We have been very fortunate to have worked alongside the best in our industry.

In the spring of 2012, Wickersham Construction and Engineering asked if Greg Lyons Construction would stand in for their superintendent on a $2 million renovation at Grandview United Methodist Church. "Greg, I was thankful to have you to lean on and eventually hand over the job to. You took it, made it your own and closed it out with the care and attention that Grandview deserved," says Jim Moffett (Greg's predecessor). Lyons Construction also had the pleasure of working on a $200 million High Construction job and recently completed all 2,200 door frames, doors and hardware at the Marriott Hotel at Penn Square & Lancaster County Convention Center. In the not-to0-distant past, Lyons Construction completed renovations at the Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware. In August 2009 Lyons Construction donated time and built from foundation to roof, an addition to house a walk-in freezer for our good friends at Kennett Area Community Service Center (KACS). KACS feeds 500 families a month; Greg likes to help during these hard times. We were also fortunate enough to be involved from conception to completion on a similar job for Oxford Neighborhood Services in Oxford, Pennsylvania. Greg did all the interior woodwork and outside porches and railings while performing as foreman on the job for Murry Construction & Associates. Lyons Construction has worked on many Murry Construction projects, like the $26 million addition on Cocalico High School, and installed all the hard maple trim in the 400,000 sq./ft. Technology Center Building at Cecil Community College. Right next door at Bay View Elementary, Lyons Construction acted as foreman while providing his signature service of installing finish trim work. Lyons Construction also installed all the trim work and removed and reworked all the wooden handrails in both five-story stair towers at Richards Hall at the Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We were able to secure long lasting relations with quality construction companies like well-known Paul Risk & Associates to work together on large projects such as Willow Valley Retirement Community. Lyons Construction fabricated and installed all the trim work at the nationally know Hartefeld Golf Course, along with many other Davis Sezna Enterprises: Klondike Kates in Newark, Delaware, after a fire completely destroyed the interior. In the Columbus Inn in Wilmington, Delaware, another of Davis's restaurants, we installed all the architectural trim.

In the 25 plus year history of Greg Lyons Construction, it would be impossible to list and document all we have experienced and accomplished. Greg has been involved in all facets of the construction industry; he started where most do, as a laborer. Greg now meets with his clients and presents Architectural 3-D conceptional drawings and remains onsite for the duration of each assignment. With each assignment comes a gift, a memory. His early mentor Warner Duerr, a master craftsman and world traveler, taught Greg about the very basic tools and gave him leading roles amongst his peers. During his three year apprenticeship, Greg also worked for a home builder that only built Timber Framed homes. Timber Framing requires attention to detail to the 16th of an inch from concept to completion. Greg has taken all that he learned in his early years and applied it to every undertaking and assignment.

It is instilled in our work ethic to use the highest quality in all facets and phases of each project. With our world growing at a breakneck pace, and as a result depleting all natural resources, Greg Lyons Construction has taken slow but steady steps into the Green Build world as I wish to urge all of us to do.
