Mason and several friends learned of an outdoor party on Mona Farm Place in La Plata and showed up uninvited. When they pulled up to the driveway, they were asked to leave – which they did. They drove about a half mile, heading toward the main highway, when they stopped their vehicle on the side of the road. The suspects, who were also asked to leave the party. At which time the suspect drove by Mason and his friends when an argument ensued between the two groups. During the argument, the suspects began hitting Mason while he was in  the car. Mason then sprayed the suspects with pepper spray an attempt to get them away from him. The suspects pulled a handgun and fired several shots into the car, striking and killing Mason and severely injuring one of his friends. The suspects fled and Mason's friend was able to drive a short distance where he was able to call for help.
Mason was pronounced deceased on the scene. Detectives pursued leads and recovered critical evidence resulting in the arrest of 4 suspects.

Mason was born April 29, 1998 in Vinton, VA to Malcolm Graham and Tammy Lynn (Tanner) Atkins. This fund will enable us to build a legacy memorial in memory of Mason near the pier and his home where he loved to hang out with friends and family fishing, crabbing, boating, or just telling his Mason Stories.

A place where family and his  friends could visit, honor his memory, and just spend time with Mason. Any and all donations would be a blessing and greatly appreciated. This memorial will be loved by many and mean so much to his family in their time of great loss through a senseless act of crime that took his young life tragically and unexpectedly. Thank You for your support!!!
