Keith's Lighter Days: In Loving Memory

Donation protected
On January 28, 2012, we lost one of the brightest and sweetest kids we all have ever had the privilege of meeting - our 11 year old Keith Ashley Farinas.
Keith, at a very young age, was a gifted musician and artist who was blessed with a scholarship to pursue his dreams and develop his talents. Music and art made him a very happy child; he lived a good life. Although he was very shy, he was always willing to share his skills and we both once dreamt of putting up a foundation for the talented children like him.
Though we'll never get our Keith back, I would like to keep chasing this goal, so I am setting up a charity in his memory with the aim of giving less fortunate children in the Philippines an opportunity to chase their own dreams and to cultivate their talents without having to struggle financially. We would like to give back and support the very core of Keith's being by making other children's dreams of becoming the next Mozart and Monet come true.

It would be such an honour if you can join me in this journey. I would appreciate it if you can share your blessings to help and to support the talented children of the Philippines pursue their dreams. My heartfelt thanks.

To know more about Keith Ashley, please visit his facebook memory page:https://www.facebook.com/pages/In-the-memory-of-our-sweet-Keith-Ashley-Farinas/176387999131725?ref=hl

For your information, I will only be able to register our charity once I reach the required amount of £5,000.

And also I would like to share this interesting facts about art and music:

"- A study done by a University of California school showed that second graders who received music lessons scored 27 percent better on math tests dealing with proportions and fractions. Math and music have similarities in their structure, and young minds are wired to receive music and respond to it.

- Children exposed to a multi-year music program involving training in increasingly complex rhythmic, tonal and practical skills displayed superior cognitive performance in reading skills compared with their non-musically trained peers, according to a study published in the journal Psychology of Music.

- Music helps with the important skills of self-discipline and focus. It takes time, effort, attention and determination to learn how to play any instrument. Taking the time to perfect a piece of music and scheduling the time to do so is a great skill for later in life.

- Perhaps most importantly, music feeds your soul. Everyone knows that food and shelter are necessary to survival, but families who engage in music education understand that music is also necessary to overall health and well-being." -www.riadmomsonmain.com

"Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skill. Arts learning can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork. A 2005 report by the Rand Corporation about the visual arts argues that the intrinsic pleasures and stimulation of the art experience do more than sweeten an individual's life -- according to the report, they "can connect people more deeply to the world and open them to new ways of seeing," creating the foundation to forge social bonds and community cohesion. And strong arts programming in schools helps close a gap that has left many a child behind: From Mozart for babies to tutus for toddlers to family trips to the museum, the children of affluent, aspiring parents generally get exposed to the arts whether or not public schools provide them. Low-income children, often, do not. "Arts education enables those children from a financially challenged background to have a more level playing field with children who have had those enrichment experiences,'' says Eric Cooper, president and founder of the National Urban Alliance for Effective Education." - www.edutopia.org
