Ugandan Orphanage Napkin Project

Hello! My name is Ellen Ruden. I'm thrilled to return to Uganda this July to volunteer again at the incredible M-Lisada orphanage! They do life changing work empowering vulnerable and orphaned children through music. The kids learn to play instruments and perform in their brass band, gaining valuable life skills and self esteem. My sewing class project this year will be teaching them to make dinner napkins using gorgeous African wax prints on the front and donated fabric on the back. For every $30 donation, you will receive a set of 4 (12- inch) napkins handmade by the kids. They will make a colorful, eco-friendly addition to your kitchen or a fun gift!
$20 will go directly to M-Lisada for buying the napkins, and the other $10 will establish a supplies fund so I can purchase lots of beautiful fabric in Kampala. I will also be setting up a little shop on one wall of their arts and crafts room to enable them to earn some extra income. I'm going to build a display with shelving and hooks and stock it with African baskets, jewelry and artifacts in addition to napkin sets and other crafts that they make. Each year M-Lisada welcomes many volunteers and visitors who will love to purchase these souvenirs to help provide food, shelter and education for these great kids. * If this surpasses the original goal, I will be disabling payments so as not to receive more pre-orders than we can fulfill. I'm hopeful that we will figure out a way to make this an ongoing project as I know several people who visit M-Lisada every year who may be able to bring napkins back to the U.S. with them. If the campaign is disabled but you would like to be on the "napkin waiting list", please let me know via the contact link and I will let you know if/when it reopens and you can donate!
