Barefoot Medicine
Donation protected
I will be traveling to the Dominican Republic in May of this year, and then to Guatemala in September. The purpose of both trips are based on the concept of the Barefoot Doctor. The main purpose is to provide free or very low cost treatments to impoverished communities, and also teach locals basic medical protocols, as they often cannot afford treatments in their countries, or there are no options. The project in Guatemala is well established and has been running for 20 years.
The project in the Dominican Republic is a new venture, that was borne from my past experiences there.
Donations will go towards medical supplies, and logistics of making these projects happen (and continue to happen).
Essentially, these communities have little or no medical services. These treatments and the training we provide is often the main and sometimes the only medical treatment they will have.
