Car payoff fund

Donation protected

In February, my husband was in a car accident.  Luckily, there were no injuries, however, the insurance totaled the car.  Of course, we were in the hole on the payoff, but we were safe in the knowledge that we'd bought gap insurance.

Neither Brian nor myself had ever had a major accident before, but we are cautious people.  We'd seen other people have major accidents and still have to pay the bank for a car they didn't have any longer.  So, we played it safe, so we thought.

I just received word from Public Service Credit Union, the Credit Union that holds the note on the totaled car, that the gap insurance only paid $3000 towards the $8700 we still owed after the car insurance paid $8717 on the car.  This leaves us with $5500 left to pay.

This past year has been brutal for us.  At the end of 2011, Brian broke his knee in a work related accident.  His work was great, but worker's comp just didn't cover all the bills.  We squeaked by, sometimes robbing Peter to pay Paul, but we almost always got things paid.  Then Brian needed a lot of dental work done, and then so did I.  Each hit made it harder and harder to reach the next pay day.

This almost $6000 is not something we can manage.  We were able to buy a new-to-us car, a 9 year old model to replace what we had.  We were, we thought, being frugal, so we could get out of the mess we were in.  We were so close to having money left over at the end of the paycheck, we could almost taste it.  We can't afford two car payments.

If you donate, you'll not only receive our everlasting gratitude, but hand made candy as well.  I am the proprietor of a very small start up company called Nirvana Sweets. I make caramels and toffees.  All of my candy is made in small batches (for freshness), and has only the finest ingredients I can afford.  The caramel has sugar, honey, cream, butter.  The flavored caramels also have syrups I make at home (for the strawberry), or fair trade chocolate.  The toffees have only sugar, honey, butter, chocolate and nuts.

The difference between what is owed on the note and what I'm funding for will go to pay the site fee, buy the ingredients for the candy, and pay shipping for the candy.  Please leave a note with which flavor you want (for those taking the rewards with choice of flavors) when you make the donation.

If you wish to make an anonymous donation, please email me at [email redacted] with the heading "GoFundMe candy order", and let me know your email address so we can work out fulfillment of the reward.

Thank you so much.
