Just wanted to send out an email with an update on Vivek's condition. He is very ill with high fevers and staying at the hospital in the city. Please think good thoughts and say your prayers for Vivek and his family. They are amazing and keeping it together best they can during this incredibly difficult time. I will post more as I know more.
Some exciting news. Vivek has been discharged from the hospital and is now in a Ronald McDonald house in New York City so he can be close to the hospital for multiple visits with the doctors. This is an exciting move, but has certainly been more challenging for Vivek's mom in many ways, including getting food and preparing it properly for him. He is still in isolation to prevent any risk of infection, which could jeopardize his health and well being. They are possibly there for another 1-3 weeks depending....
I am asking for donations again. The money that was raised went a far way, but their expenses are growing and it is a real stressor on this amazing family. They have to pay for the Ronald McDonald house, babysitting, expensive medications, parking, and when Vivek comes home there will be travelling in and out of the city several times a week to closely monitor Vivek. I know that you have all donated generously, and any amount will help them.
Thank you in advance and please continue to think good thoughts for Vivek and his family.
Well, its official. Vivek has been admitted to the hospital. He is undergoing chemotherapy and will be getting his bone marrow transplant in 7 days. They did not find a true match, but his mother will be his donor and all we can do is hope and pray.
I will keep everyone updated as I know more. Thank you for all of your support!
Just wanted to send an update, Vivek is getting ready for his bone marrow transplant. It is a risky procedure and Vivek and his mom will be living in the hospital for the next 6 weeks to 3 months. We have high hopes for them and your contributions will be used to help care for their 5 year old. We have reached our goal, but any additional funds will help to cover all of the expenses that are quickly adding up.
I want to give a special thanks to all of the people who came out today for Vivek's bone marrow drive! We swabbed about 140 new registrants! I want you to know that you have opened a door to save a life today!

Little Vivek was recently hospitalized in New York City with HLH,(hemophagocytic
lymphohistiocytosis) a very serious and life threatening blood disorder. He is just a year old.
Vivek is a super happy kid with bright beautiful eyes and always a smile on his face. He received a bone marrow transplant and is recovering. His state of health is still fragile and he is currently on isolation precautions at the Ronald McDonald house close to the hospital with his Mom. They are not out of the woods and have a long road to go.
Your thoughts and prayers are needed.
His Mom has been with Vivek around the clock, occasionally taking turns to be at home with their other child (an awesomely vivacious 5 year old boy). His Mom and Dad have also gone through this before as their first Child also suffered from HLH and passed away a few years ago. That Vivek is also suffering from this disease is tragic but many advances in medicine and the fact that it was caught quickly leads us to have great hope.
We decided to try to
set up this page to help them with donations so that they could have less to worry about during this awfully challenging time.
Being away from home, their expenses are adding up rapidly, including Ronald McDonald house costs, parking, medication, food cost, anticipated medical expenses, and the need for consistent childcare with their 5 year old. Once he is discharged from the Ronald McDonald house, they will need to travel in and out of the City several times a week for appointments and treatments, which will take an even greater toll on the families finances.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and support in this trying time for this family and their loved ones.
