My name is Katherine Myers and I'm a sophomore at Messalonskee High School in Oakland, Maine. Last fall I was nominated to become a People to People Student Ambassador and go on a 19-day educational trip to the Unites Kingdom in July, 2013. Needless to say, I was very excited. Before I was accepted to become an ambassador, I was interviewed by a panel of People to People leaders. I was thrilled when I got word I was accepted!
Some of the amazing things we will be doing include meeting members of British Parliament, volunteering in communities in need, having a weekend stay with a host-family in Ireland (where we'll experience what their everyday lives are like, including doing chores!), rappelling 90 feet down a Welsh Castle wall, become an honorary knight during an exclusive tour of the spellbinding Warwick Castle, shearing sheep on a family-owned farm, and meeting a legendary Scottish Highlander during a demonstration involving weapons, kilts, and clans, plus much, much more!
I can't wait to experience these magnificent countries and see their beautiful landscape. This trip will also give me high school credit. The academic focus is on architecture, art, Earth science, geology, history, and political science. I've been doing a lot of fundraising and still need about $5,000 in order to meet my goal. Any donation would be GREATLY appreciated, no matter how small! For local people who would like to donate, I will gladly return the favor by offering my time to you for things such as babysitting, raking/mowing, pet-sitting, cleaning, filing, etc.
Thank you in advance for your support!
