Starry Night Artist Residency

Donation protected
My name is Kate McCammon.  I am an artist and I was recently accepted into an artist residency at Starry Night Retreat in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico for the month of September.  This is an incredible opportunity that provides artists with studio spaces and housing, uninterrupted time to work on personal projects, and a creative enviroment in which to work with other artists.  Not only would this experience propel my studio practice and provide me with fresh inspiration, but it would also fulfill my lifelong dream of traveling to New Mexico.  My mom lived in Albuquerque for a few years, and my oldest brother was born there.  Two of my other siblings were also born out west.  In the late 1980's, she packed up the family and headed east, where my twin brother and I were born - in West Virginia.  Growing up, I always had a curiosity about the West and about my mom's experiences before she came to our home in the quiet Appalachians.  These interests have traveled with me throughout my artistic investigations, and my curiosity for New Mexico in particular has persistently lingered.

My work deals with surface, materiality, and transformation.  Landscape is always an underlying inspiration.  I love that nature is always changing, always moving, and always unpredictable.  In my work I utilize materials and fabrics that shift in color or capture light to create a sense of looking through or passing by a changing landscape.  To actually witness the beauty of a shifting New Mexican desert from the light of a sunset would be nothing other than awe-inspiring.  I remember when I first asked my mom about where she lived in Albuquerque.  One of the first things she described was the incredible wind.  That got me even more excited to experience not only the changing colors but also the incessant movement of the landscape and all the textures that come with it.  Here is a link to my website with exaples of my work www. katemccammon.com
The cost of the residency for one month is: $3,600.  The residency provides the option to pay in monthly installments  over the period of three months before the residency (so before September).  So I have to pay $1,200 per month.  I was already able to pay the first month's installment in order to secure my spot in the residency, which leaves a total of $2,400 remaining for the residency fee.  In addition to the residency fee, I will also need to cover funds for my flight and supplies, bringing my total residency goal to $3,000.

All donators will receive works I create during my residency.  See my website for a general idea of works you may receive.  I work with a variety of materials and create  paintings/objects/things.  The artwork received will depend on the amount donated.  All artwork will include a handwritten thank you note.

Donators who give $10-$50: receive small scale sketches/studies.

Donators who give $50-$100: receive small scale paintings/drawings

Donators who give $100-$500: receive midscale artwork

Donators who give $500-$1,000: receive artwork from residency as well as a commissioned art piece

Donators who give more than $1,000: receive artwork from residency, a commissioned art piece, and a post residency art piece

Partipating in this residency would be a dream come true.  I am excited to launch my next journey and see where New Mexico's wind takes me.

Thank you all for your time and consideration.  I will truly be grateful for any help I receieve.
