About the Coach in Zambia Foundation
www.coachinzambia.wordpress.com
The Coach in Zambia Foundation is a non-profit/Non-governmental organization aimed at giving youth of Zambia opportunities they would not ordinarily get using sports, particularly basketball as a catalyst for further education. The students enrolled in the program must maintain a certain grade level in their classes and a 70% attendance at practice. Further to this, the kids are mentored on life skills and other aspects. For example, we have partnered with Doctors who give health and nutrition talks, talks about HIV/AIDS awareness, sexual reproductive health, and injury treatment and prevention. We also have volunteers come in and speak to the kids about environmental issues, gender based violence and womens rights/equality.

Once the kids complete Grade 12 we help them apply and find scholarships to universities, both locally and abroad. Currently graduates of the program are studying in Morocco, Malaysia, Russia, Turkey, Australia, Cuba,  China, and of course Zambia on full academic scholarships and a few of them have continued with basketball playing for club teams in the countries they are studying in.

One of the mantras of The Coach in Zambia Foundation(CIZ) is to give youths opportunities they would not other wise receive, CIZ is helping to fundraise for the Zambia Men's National Basketball Team(ZMNBT). The ZMNBT has been invited to the Indigenous World Basketball Challenge in Vancouver Canada in August of this year 2016. The tournament will consist of national teams from around the world as well as club teams from around the world. There are former NBA players, future NBA Players and professional players from leagues around the world who will be competing in this tournament. This is an opportunity for the ZMNBT to showcase its talent on an international stage. It is the hope that with this showing, some players will get the exposure needed to gain them professional try-outs and hopefully contracts and others university scholarships.

The Picture above is one of the National teams consisting of only university students for the Confederation of University and College Sport Association(CUCSA) tournament.

The organizers of the tournament are covering accommodation and meals during our stay there, so
the money raised will be used for the following:

1. Airfare to and from Vancouver for the ZMNBT(this is most of the budget)
2. Kits, sneakers, gym bags.

3. Medical/Travel Insurance
4. Canadian Visas for players and coaches
5. Camp for team
6. Emergency/Incidental Money for trip
7. Out of Country Per Diems for players and coaches
8. Logistical support for team trainings i.e. transportation, water, court hire, etc
9. Promotional Roadshow within Zambia- ZMNBT goes city to city, plays friendly against local all-star teams, has a dunk contest, 3 point contest, t-shirt giveaway and then does a clinic with local school or orphanage.
10. Coach in Zambia Foundation Administration costs, coaches/mentor permanent staff salaries, opening of computer internet lab for students in the program to enhance their studies.

The funds are needed as soon as possible, preferably in 1 months time maximum to allow for proper planning.

Assistance for this venture will directly impact the lives of the members of the team as it will give the international exposure they need to take their talents to the next level. It will also impact generations to come, as a good showing in this tournament will put Zambia on the map as far as Basketball Talent where collegiate and professional coaches alike can recruit players.
