Charitable Couple Needs Rent
We have always tried to help others, even when we were low or without funds ourselves. We raised more than $133,000 over two years as the event chairs for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.
We donated dozens of hours to Camp Pendleton, both to a group where families had one or both parents deployed, and also for several years as the entire base's Santa and Mrs. Claus. We have donated toys and hours to three separate Domestic Abuse Shelters, two Children's Hospitals and created an "Operation Letters to Santa" in Southern California that gave Christmas to over 600 families and covered everything from shoes to toys to rent payments.
We volunteered and worked on numerous community projects such as the Watershed Task Force, are former youth counselors, had done tree lightings, parades, and more as Santa and Mrs. Claus. We always try to bring smiles to others, even when it is hard to smile ourselves. All of what I am saying can be substantiated on the Internet.
For the last two years we have been
unemployed mostly because we are in, or nearly in, our sixties. I am
four months away from qualifying for Social Security. If we can make
it that far, we will be self sufficient once more. Our expenses run less than a thousand dollars a
month, but right now at might as well be ten thousand a month.
We had a disappointing Christmas season this year, which usually keeps us going for a couple months after Christmas, but this time didn't even last until the end of January.
A friend told us about this, and I am not sure if this will help, as we don't have a whole lot of friends and no family to reach out to. Many of our friends are just getting by themselves. If there is a kind heart out there that could help us, we would be beyond grateful.
It is hard for us to be in a position of needing instead of helping. We only hope, and are asking, enough to carry us over this bridge. We pray someone steps forward as we used to be able to do ourselves. Might that someone be you?
