Hello everyone! I just wanted to post an update for all of you who helped support Piper and the Wilhide family.
Piper is doing very well! She goes in periodically to get checkups and has been doing great! They have created "Pipers Promise" and use this for fundraisesr to help raise awareness and to give back.
The nurse just called me... she said they got it all out!!!! They are going to go in one more time to be sure of everything, but she will be out in an hour or so!!!!!! I can't wait to hera what the surgeon has to say, but I know a miracle just happened in that OR room and that big monster is out of my baby right now!!!!! Thank you for the prayers!!!!! We love you!!! We believe, always and forever!!!!!
Tomorrow is the BIG day! We have been waiting for this DAY since October. We met with the surgeon this morning and went over everything in detail. We need more prayers than ever. Please remember lil' Ms. Piper tomorrow as she will be in surgery all day long. I didn't realize it, but the tumor must come out as a whole piece. It is bigger than a fist, bigger than her heart, and dense somewhat like a... softball. We need to remove this MONSTER once and for all. Please pray for Piper's amazing medical team to make all of the right choices and do the best job possible! I have attached an up to date picture of Piper. She is precious, isn't she?! She is a little miracle and I believe GOD has BIG plans for her! Please do not abuse this picture as it was done in the past. I have faith that Piper will be healed and I ask that you all join me and lift her name up over the next couple of days! We BELIEVE!!!!!!! TEAM PIPER!!!!!!!!!!!
Please see an update below from Haleigh. Your continued support is very much appreciated! Thank you!
November 26th: Piper's counts were ALL good! We will be back next Friday for round three of chemo!!!!!! Piper is such a tough little girl! Love her more than anything in this world!!!!!
November 25: Piper has clinic first thing in the morning tomorrow! It is hard to believe that we will be 10 days into cycle 2 already! Hopefully all of her counts will be good and she has a good day of traveling...she does not seem to be a fan of the long car rides! Again, thanks to all of those that went to Piper's benefit in Ohio and all of those that gave blood in Piper's honor this weekend! We love you all!!!!
October 29: The WILHIDE FAMILY is home!!!! It is hard to believe that it has been almost two weeks since our life has been turned upside down. So far Piper is doing great, no fever. I think I have checked it every hour on the hour. We will start our clinic visits this week, but if ANYTHING is not "normal" then we will be right back in the hospital. The hospital will be our "home away from home!" W
hen we checked out of the Ronald McDonald house they asked me to go in the back room and they had huge stash of crotched blankets and quilts for me to pick out for Piper. HOW SWEET! People just donate these items for the family to have when they leave. I really cannot wait to be DONE with killing this monster so I can help out at the Ronald McDonald house. They truly have been a lifesaver these past couple weeks and do so much for families with sick children! This morning I learned how to flush her port, change her dressing, and give her a shot. These tasks will now be my everyday responsibilities. We are so happy to have BIG SIS with us, FINALLY! Skyping gets old when you miss your family! We were given a "chemo duck" at the hospital that has a port in the tummy to help my daughter understand what is going on with her little sister. She loved it of course, what three year old wouldn't like a stuffed animal? We know our life will never be "normal" again, but at least being home for one day, or two days, or three days at time will help us get through this journey. I am blessed to have you all in our life! Thank you again for the prayers and support! GOD, please keep your hands on my child each day and night as we battle this monster. I pray that you will show the world your power by making everything go away, 100%, completely! When we do her scans after her two cycles, I pray that you will wipe her body clean and she will be pure! I know you are an awesome GOD, thank you for giving me strength today"¦I ask that you give me strength tomorrow, one day at a time! AMEN! ♥
October 27: Piper got her chemo this morning at 11 a.m. She was up for most of the time, but she did great. She gets her nausea medicine every 8 hours so I am sure that is helping. Tomorrow will be her last day of chemo for this cycle. We are still on schedule to be discharged Monday. I have so much paperwork to reread and things I will have to do when I am home (give shots, change dressings, flus
h her port, etc.) but soon I will be a PRO at everything. Today has been a pretty quiet day. I look at her and she seems so PERFECT that it is so hard to think that something is wrong with her. I can't say thanks enough to everyone that has been in support of TEAM PIPER. I hope you all squeeze your loved ones tonight"¦appreciate LIFE, not materialistic things"¦Have a good laugh, feel the love, hold hands, tell people how much they mean to you, act silly with your kids"¦Life is way too short to not appreciate the BIG things, don't sweat the SMALL things. Dear Lord, please continue to give my family strength, one day at a time, one hurdle at a time"¦.we got this! AMEN!
October 26: This morning they need some of Piper's blood and thankfully her port is now working and they got her clot out. They took the rest of her images today. It didn't take as long as yesterday and overall she (AGAIN) did great. We had a hearing test when we got back up in our room and she passed. They need it as a marker to see if it changes after treatment. I got a littl
e confused yesterday, I thought she received fluids BEFORE her chemo, but she receives fluids AFTER her chemo. She received two different types today. The first one was for one hour and the second one was for two hours, followed by two hours of fluid. She was up for the first hour and then SLEPT like a baby doll for the rest. They gave her some nausea medicine before they started. She really made us proud today! Her strength and determination will give US strength, one day at a time. Your prayers are helping my sweet baby! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! The doctor came i
n and read the radiologist report from her two day scans of her MIBG"¦.CLEAN! PRAISE HIS NAME! We are looking at the single TUMOR in her back. We have to await our last results (sometime next week) about her confirmed risk group. Again, as of now, she is in the intermediate risk group. Please pray that she stays in that category. She will have chemo Saturday and Sunday, tomorrow will be around 11:00 am. They are talking about discharging us on MONDAY! My emotions have been on the biggest rollercoaster ever: sad, mad, relieved, scared, angry, helpless, blessed"¦.it is just constantly up and down. My daily devotion for today: My burden is light"¦Mathew 11:30. Thank you all for the support of TEAM PIPER! Today marks the first day of a long road, with highs and lows, but by the grace of our FATHER, my child will be HEALED! He is using her story to spread his WORD and because of TEAM PIPER, people will start believing! Miracles happen all the time, small and big....Piper McKinleigh Wilhide is a miracle from GOD! THANK YOU for being a part of our journey! LOVE to you all
Thank you so much to everyone who has given so far and taken the time to send their heart felt wishes to the Wilhide family. Please continue to help spread the word as much as you can, every bit helps!
October 25: Today Piper got her images first thing in the morning. We were down there for about 3.5 hours. She did pretty good, but would get upset here and there. What do you expect a 5 week old to do as she is strapped down with her blanket and tape. We had to hold her arms above her head too for about 32 minutes, that was not fun. I had to pick her up all strapped in on the board and breastfeed
her and another time I had to just lean over her to feed her, yes it was crazy but I will do whatever I have to do to make her feel better. After lunch we had paperwork to read up on Piper's treatment plan, a roadmap, and her stage, stage III. We were under the impression that it was stage II, but based on the placement of her tumor it has slightly crossed over her midline putting her into stage III. Of course when I heard that my heart sunk a million times. They have SO FAR put her at the intermediate risk group, so yes it is not the LOW or the HIGH. They will not know for sure until about next Wednesday. As soon as they can confirm that it is intermediate we will know. We know it won't be anything less than intermediate, so now I ask that you all pray that it stays there. Her chemotherapy will be 8 cycles, not 4. There are so many things thrown at us and so much to soak up and try to understand. We have more imaging tomorrow morning, and then she will get her fluids for 2 hours before chemo"¦yes tomorrow is her FIRST DAY of getting chemotherapy. They will give her nausea medicine before chemo starts (after her fluids). I am missing my other daughter at home, hurting that her stage has moved up a level, hurting knowing that she is in the intermediate risk and knowing that tomorrow begins the longest rollercoaster ride I will ever be on. I know my GOD will allow me to get through everything, one day at a time"¦I love you Piper McKinleigh! Your #1 fan, MOMMY!

Piper is the 4 week old daughter of Randy and Haleigh Wilhide. She was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma-Malignant Tumor.
October 23: Today has been by far the least stressful so far. All they had to do was draw Piper's blood. It was done peacefully through her port this time! YEAHHHH for no more IV's and heel sticks:for now anyway. Piper was able to sleep and relax and be in my arms all day, smiling and acting happy. She gets her MIBG tomorrow so she can get more images done on Thursday and Friday to determine if ...
the MONSTER is in any of her soft tissues, like her liver, spleen, etc. We might know Thursday the results, but more than likely we will get the news on Friday. We will also know her "risk group" (low, medium, high) by Friday. Additionally, we will begin Day 1, cycle 1 of her chemotherapy. So as you can tell FRIDAY is going to be a VERY BIG DAY for TEAM PIPER! On another note, Piper has gotten so big in just a week (it is hard to think that we have already been in the hospital for a week!) This past week has felt like ONE very long day:never knowing what time it is or what day it is: Her cheeks are starting to fill out and her little legs are starting to get a roll in them. Her hair is getting longer and lighter by the day too. She is up to 9 lbs. 11 oz. Please continue to pray for all of the medical team involved in her day to day care, and all of the other babies and young children that are currently fighting this childhood cancer. The feelings and emotions involved with having your child be diagnosed with cancer is beyond words, just unimaginable, however with the love and support and prayers from everyone makes each day tolerable. My daily devotion was "You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace:" Isaiah 55:12 WE GOT THIS GOD, WE GOT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TEAM PIPER!
