Osukuru United Women Network (OWN)

Osukuru United Women Network (OWN) is a group of women in Tororo District Osukuru sub county, Kayoro parish Asinget Village in Eastern Uganda. They provide leadership training for impoverished young women, helping them become sustainable entrepreneurs to better combat poverty and sexual abuse in the village. They counsel women who have been through physical and emotional hardship, and shed awareness on how global warming is affecting their homes, and the ways they've previously generated revenue to provide for their families. Their current goal is to build a sustainable goat farm that will generate income for many households.

The total cost of the project is $7,555 US dollars. The actual cost to build the farm is $4,534 US dollars, the group hopes to use the rest of the budget to build an office space for the women to work on handcrafts and learn basic skills. Each group will get three goats, two female and one male. After six months, the male will be sold for revenue and the females will have another litter, cycling males for sale while females producing milk to generate sustainable income.

My name is Ocean, I'm 15-years-old. I am the Global Youth Editor for Origin Magazine, and I believe strongly in Osukuru United Women Network (OWN). The leader of this group, Constance Okollet, is a dear friend. She lives in this village needs our help to raise awareness and shift the lives of the women in her community.

Even if all you can give is $5, that's still $12,950 Ugandan shillings! Please refer to our wish list and see how your contribution will help better the lives of these women.

Much gratitude, Ocean and Constance
