All the bricks have been ordered and the statue is underway. The 27th of July is the dedication ceremony in Concrete, WA. Planning for the event is ongoing and details will be posted as they are confirmed.
Jason Vose is working through the Airborne portion. I have noted a few of you who have expressed interest in participating and will push information to you once I have specifics. In order to best prepare for your participation I will need the following:
- Date of last jump (Jump log)
- MFF certificate
- HAP Chamber card
- Hazardous duty orders
- Jump Master currency for all those interested in JMing.
There is the possibility this will be a civilian craft jump but in any case, those jumping will be required to submit the above documentation to ensure legal participation. If this will be military run, I will provide you with the OPORD and required documentation to best plan.
If you are interested, please send me the above documentation by 15 June so we can properly plan. Thank you.
It gives me great pleasure to update you all with a photo of the work being done by Stan Watts as he progresses in the initial stages of developing the statue of Doug. This is a very rough draft of the end product so any artistic criticism will be put to rest when the final product is standing proud in Concrete, WA.
This Thursday is the absolute last day to get your sentiments in. I will be placing the brick order on 26 April as stated before. If you see this message after the 26th, I will work with you should you want to make a change to your originally posted message. Many have confirmed with either myself or Michael Frank and therefore do not need to provide any more information unless you change your mind of course.
The 26th will be the last day in which donations can be made and memorialized with a brick, BUT THE SITE WILL REMAIN OPEN. Any donations received after that will support the cermony but unfortunately there will be no more availability of bricks. More updates to follow in the coming weeks. Thank you all again, so much.
15 April has passed and I have about a 60% confirmation of what everyone wanted engraved on their statue-base bricks. Given some requests for more time, I can delay the brick order until no later than 26 April. This is the last day that will ensure delivery with enough time to install prior to the 27 July dedication ceremony.
Michael Frank, a life-long friend of Doug's and integral part of this effort will be contacting many of you to help confirm brick wording. If you receive an email from him in regards to this subject, please provide him the information required.
Again, thank you all so much and more to follow as the statue is crafted and the ceremony detailed.
First, I want to thank you all again for the amazing effort put forth. Second, I'd like to update you with progress. The sculptor is fully underway and I will provide photos of his progress as soon as possible. Also, the site has been confirmed by the Concrete WA Board of Education and Doug's Statue will be just off the High School Football field, vigilantly standing tall by the flag pole.
I have a list of all those who have contributed and their sentiments as posted on the site and sent to me separately via email (firstname.lastname@example.org). I'm limited in sending this spreadsheet to everyone because there are several folks who contributed in anonymity and I want to respect their choice and not divulge their names to everyone. Also there are over 300 donors so writing a personalized message to each of you with what I have recorded for you isn't possible given the time I have. So, please reply to this update that sends a message to my yahoo account with the following:
1) How you want your or your family's name to read on the brick.
2) For the $100 donors - The message you want written along with your name.
On 15 April I will consolidate all information and the bricks will be ordered. I will do my best to accommodate anyone to which this timeline doesn't work.
Be on the lookout for updates as we close in on the ceremony. Thank you all again, so much
A VICTORY made possible only by the collective effort of those who were fortunate to have known Doug personally or knew him through loved ones, moved to become part of something that defines the true nature of sacrifice that military families and fellow soldiers know all too well. We breathe it daily and bear its burden in the name of freedom so we can live pursuing our dreams. This outpouring of support from across the world is an astounding testament of that spirit and drive and serves as beacon of light to ALL those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice; You are never forgotten, forever honored and continue to fight on through the actions of your family, brothers in arms, and those inspired by your selfless actions of honor.
Though we have met the fundraising goal, THE DRIVE WILL CONTINUE. The true nature of this Memorial is to give people the opportunity to be part of something and someone that captures the very essence of Good in this world; To be part of a family and brotherhood that embodies the virtues of Honor, Faith and Sacrifice. Each of us may try to live and exercise these ideals daily, but Doug's Memorial symbolizes the concerted effort we all practice together towards a common goal and therefore it will continue to remain available for those who want to be part of it.
WAY AHEAD: I will continue to make this opportunity available through the GoFundMe website and update progress of Doug's Memorial event as details are developed. There will be a an informative website using Facebook to support these details. Funds beyond the goal will be used toward ensuring a ceremony worthy of all your efforts in truly honoring Doug. More to follow. Also, I will send out an email to each of you who have supported to ensure that your name and sentiments are accurate to what I have on record from you. If you need more time to develop something to say with your name, no worries; We still have a little time before that information needs to be finalized.
Thank you all so much again. This has been an overwhelming outpour of support. A special thanks to the Special Forces Association, Chapter V and the men of 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group who energized such a substantial effort and cleared even beyond the Line of Advance securing, Victory!!!
Since Jason's radio debut on the Brad and John show, we've had record donation days; The 19th, 20th, and today have had more donations each day than any other day during this fundraising drive. In fact, more than 30% of the donors have supported within these past 3 days. Thank you!!!
Today is the 3/4 mark in time and if we keep up the momentum we can do this!!! The moving pieces of the ceremony are coming together as well so we're seeing some great collaboration as we close in on the deadline.
I want to take this time to thank the biggest supporters who together make up 54% of what we have achieved so far:
$3640 - The Town of Concrete
$3000 - ODA 0116
$2000 - ODA 0114
$1500 - Mike and Vicki Frank
$1000 - CSM Frank Levesque
$1000 - Kent Jones
$1000 - The Caravan Family
$650 - Tom Lainis
$500 - George Thiebes
But obviously this is a group effort and everyone's support has been amazing. It's been said many times, that all gave some...we're seeing that come true to life here in memorializing one who gave all. More to follow soon. Thank you so much!
Not every donation has to be one of the "reward levels" as shown by Mr. Anom who in his private contribution said, "I wish I had more...but like it was said, if we all just gave a little, we could make this happen!!! Come on people, you don't have to buy a round, just one to quench Doug's thirst!!!
I also want to thank so many people who have come together to support this effort. From those who grew up with Doug to those who fought by his side across the globe to those who didn't even know Doug but understood his lasting impact of professionalism, courage, and heart through family and friends. Doug's hometown of Concrete, the teammates, brothers and fellow Green Berets to include those soldiers from across services and support have come together to help make this possible. So many have come together in an outpouring of support. BUT"¦there are many out there who have not come forward. Those who HAVEN'T KNOW WHO THEY ARE and now, I WRITE TO YOU.
You have thought about it and may have said to yourself or others, you will contribute. Maybe you are hesitant because you don't see support you think should be in the forefront; the Vose family. Or maybe you haven't supported because you don't think this is even possible and worth your effort. Maybe, you don't trust the site or use of credit card where you are. If you fall in the camp of the first and second argument, my comment is that of pity; joining a fight dependent on the will of others, unable to fight on your own. I hope life has and will continue to show you mercy. Rest assured, the Vose family doesn't NEED your help and has already made this a reality but has offered the honor of joining the effort and show you either knew Doug and want to be part of his legacy or simply respect what he stood for and want to be part of something that will memorialize him.
For those with contribution method issues, please contact me and we can work an arrangement in which you can take part in this honor, memorializing your name in support of Doug's image. It's not a question of whether or not this will happen but if you want to be a part of it. This is an event, just like the one that might have inspired you to become what you are today. Does your participation depend on who will join with you and how you will fight or will you act with honor and faith in the brotherhood of those who fight to free the oppressed? Again, to those who have supported, I thank you and to those who haven't I hope you take advantage of the opportunity in this noble endeavor.
We're 3 weeks away from our goal and have made some awesome progress this past week. Thank you all so much for contributing. We still have a ways to go though and need a big push such as from the men of Doug's team, ODA 0114. I hope to see more such efforts as we approach the end of this drive. Please remember that if we don't make our goal, all funds go back to the contributors. This is an ALL or nothing campaign so let's give it our ALL like Doug did!!!
Attached in this update is a picture of Doug that will be used as a model for the statue. Between this and last week's post of the statue base, you can get a good idea of where all our efforts are going as a memorial to our friend, teammate, brother and hero comes together.
If there are any people who are apprehensive about contributing via credit card and would prefer checks, please contact me. Thank you all again and I hope to see this recent surge of effort from the last week continue to our goal.
We're just about at that half way point in time but still a ways out from the fundraising goal. I wish I could extend the time to donate but these are the constraints of the website. I hope that you all energize your networks to reach this goal.
I'm posting an architectural draft of the statue base. Everyone who has donated thus far will have their names on the center part of the base with sentiments you have left and a citation to Doug with 4" lettering in the 6" space around the top of the statue.
We are moving forward because of the support you have shown, but unless we meet the fundraising goal of $40,000 by March 9th, 2013, we will have to start from scratch. Please help out and make this a reality. A special thanks to Michael Frank, Kent Jones, Frank Levesque and of course the people of Concrete WA, for your exceptional contributions.
We've made it to the one third mark in just about the same amount of time. However, we've seen a decrease in activity towards the end of January. I hope that we can make February as successful and then go into the final days with less than a third left to go. Can we make that happen? I know if we all work together in making people aware, we can! You've already proven what's possible, so lets keep going.
I will have the statue base's design published here shortly so you can all see what will be used for the statue and all names and sentiments you've shared with me. It's become obvious Doug has touched so many lives in such a positive way; a brother in arms, the example of quiet professionalism, and someone who left an impression that there are real heroes to inspire us in every facet of life. I look forward to hearing more from you as we continue this fantastic effort together. Sincerely, thank you all for your support thus far and for what I know you are all still doing as we strive to build this monument to Doug. He will never be forgotten.
This has been a milestone week with the breaking of the quarter mark!!! Thank you all so much for this great first surge. We need to keep up the effort and continue socializing this whenever we can. If you know of anyone looking to skydive please contact me prior to donating. It's a big commitment and I want to ensure a great experience.
This project is a memorial statue with full dedication ceremony immortalizing a fallen hero. The memorial will be crafted by an individual artisan and built on Concrete, WA High School grounds where Douglas Vose started his life leaving an impression on the people; the true definition of honor, respect, courage, and hard work.
The statue will be a life-sized bronze sculpture of Doug in his Green Beret Uniform (Army Greens) and will be dedicated to the town of Concrete on July 27th 2013, two days prior to the 4 year anniversary of his death. The base of the statue will be constructed of engraved bricks in which sponsors will be literally supporting Doug's statue with their own words and memories.
The ceremony will be conducted at Concrete's High School. In addition to the dedication of the statue, the ceremony will include a full day of festivities in celebration of Doug's amazing life and sacrifice. Doug's brother, a Marine Corps Officer, has coordinated the day to include parachute operations with Force Recon and Army Special Forces who knew and fought with Doug.
