Relocate disabled man and family so son can go to college

Darren has a much more pressing problem now that he needs urgent help with.

He needs money urgently to move so that his eldest son can go to college.

His son has worked hard and done really well at school but there are no colleges near where they live that do the courses he wants to do. He could do really well and even go on to university. The nearest college is 30 miles away but the public transport would not get him there early enough. The college has offered Darren's son a place but will only solidify it if he can get there. Moving is the only option.

Other than that, the next nearest college that offers similar courses is over 50 miles away.

Darren is disabled. He's married and has 3 children. His wife is unable to work as she cares for Darren 24-7 and our children.

Darren used to work until he got worse and then had to stop. In the move from work to benefits, it took months to sort out and this, with knock-on effects, badly affected their credit.

They had something lined up but unfortunately this has fallen through at the last minute. This has put tremendous strain on the entire family.

He tried the council and housing associations but they've been no help. The council and HAs won't give priority when you don't live in the area and some HAs won't even consider an application form unless you already live in the area.

However, both the council and HAs have said they have no suitable properties in any event. This leaves them with no choice but renting privately.

That's what they need the money for, towards the moving costs and the initial deposit.

They have found a house, and the landlord is okay with their situation - it just comes down to the money.

It's so annoying and soul destroying.  A few years ago, I could've saved this in no time - and I'm sure Darren could have too back when he was working. In getting worse with a disability, it's all too often the case that you lose everything you worked for. There's no help for disabled people who are unable to work - especially disabled parents - who need to move.

Darren's disability should not hold back his son's future. It shouldn't but this country (this world) is not geared up for people like Darren.

Moving would also help Darren and his family, as he may be able to get back into the world of work. These opportunities do not exist where they live currently.

Please please help if you can, if not for Darren then for his son.
