Aid for 2012 Flood Victims in Manila

Torrential rains following Typhoon Saola have flooded the Philippine capital, displacing up to 20,000 residents and raising last week's death toll to 51, according to the Associated Press. As usual it is the poorest of the poor who are most affected - those living in shanties and makeshift houses that are easily swept away by the floods, living the residents with nowhere to go.

A big majority of these people subsist on daily labor. With streets flooded, they cannot work and without work they cannot fend for themselves or their families.

In typical bayanihan fashion, a number of aid agencies and groups have formed to provide temporary shelter, food and aid packages to the displaced residents. This is my own personal, albeirt remote, effort to support the heroic efforts of those agencies now directly working on the field.

All donations will be sent directly to the Gawad Kalinga command center for relief operations.

Thank you for your kind assistance.
