Help Children Who Are Bullied

Donation protected
Just think back in time when you were in grade school and high school.  You could have been the one being bullied, you could have been a spectator of someone being bullied.  Remember how it made you feel?  Being bullied doesn't feel good.  School bullying is a cruel repetitive behavior used to control those who are perceived as weaker and/or smaller.  School bullying is peer-to-peer and older students bullying younger children.

My story began in 2008 when I first wrote the book, "Stop Bullying:  Treat Others The Way You Want To Be Treated."   When I began to hear on the news that year that children were committing suicide due to being bullied caught my attention.  The repetition of this information began to strike a cord deep within me and reminded of a time past when around the age of 10 years old I attempted suicide.  I know what hopelessness feels like.  My hopelessness came because I became a foster child and I missed my mother very, very much.  I made a conscious decision to end the pain of not being able to live with my mother.   And so, I understood what they felt prior to and that place is a very lonely.  I wanted to talk to youth about school bullying and decided to write a book to speak to them.    My website is www.stop-bullying.co

I am a published author and have also self-published books.   Themes of some of my books are Christian-based and some are for the public sector.  The public sector books are geared toward helping youth in various categories, such as youth in foster care and youth who are bullied in school.

I was introduced to a publishing company around 2008/2009.   I was so happy because now  I had a place where I could self-publish at a reasonable cost.   The first title and book was 'Open Mike'  etc. I named it that name because in my workshops I would let the children come up to speak on microphones and they loved it.  I did this because it  gave the children motivation to verbally participate and speak what was on their minds.  One workshop I had, I didn't have a microphone, but had the children come up front to speak.  They liked doing that, too.  In this workshop a primary aged little girl kept coming back up.  She pronounced the word bullying like boolying and everytime she would finish her statement all the other children would clap for her and I do mean everytime.  It was very precious.

However, after years of continued research and soul searching for what I believed what the children really needed to know, the book evolved into what it is today.  I had the book printed through the publisher I was introduced to.  As a result of going through this publisher, my other books would be on sale through their website.  However, never made any sales through the publisher's website.  However, the publisher never put this book on her website.

In March, 2013, my health and I became critcally ill and my left leg was amputed below the knee.   It was almost a year before I could get back to this project with this book.  In February 2014 I was well enough to finish editing the book and get it to this publisher to print.  I was so excited!   However, when I received the book back from the publisher, the book wasn't binded securely enough and page 23 was loose.  I told the publisher and she refused to reprint and re-bind the books because she said it was sale-able.  However, whether or not it was sale-able, it was defective.  Personally, I would be uncomfortable charging anyone full price for the book.  She refused to reprint and even told me that she was not going to print this book again nor any other book of mine.  She told me my anti-bullying book shouldn't be out there and that she saw the writing on the wall and that's why she wasn't going to print it ever again.   I asked her why would she treating me like that.  I had spent money on marketing materials and all of that would be wasted.  I have to admit I cried and I begged her to please reprint the book this last time.  I asked her specifically three (3) times.  She suggested I get my own ISBN number and publish my own book.  She would not relent.  I had 100 books printed and they were all defective.   And so, I learned how to get my own ISBN number and republished.

She and I exchanged emails regarding this incident.   I requested for her to return my money and she did.  I also requested that she take all of my books off of her website and that she did not do.  As current as of April, 2015, some of my books are still on her website.  One of the books she had on her website she has turned over to a distributor and it is on that site now.

Currently,  my concern is getting this information out there regarding school bullying.   According to statistics approximately 252,000 high school youth are bullied each month.  These stats do not include elementary and middle school students, nor does this  number include youth being cyberbullied.  Another statistic is approximately 160.000 students don't go to school on a daily basis due to being bullied.   What I found interesting in the next statistic is that most youth do not tell their parents that they are being bullied.

Youth are looking for answers how to deal with being bullied.  When I share this information in workshops, the youth are grateful for this information.  This non-aggressive information empowers some of them.   At the end of one workshop, the children gathered around me and thanked me.  The thing that I enjoy most is when they hear some of these techniques and I see their faces light up with understanding as they experience an 'ah hah' moment.    Very powerful.

The reason why I am doing this is because when I first began this journey in 2008, I had two legs.  But now I have one and am in a wheelchair.  Because of that and other health issues, I am unable to travel across the nation to facilitate workshops.  While I can't physically be at various venues, I can circulate this information  on a national level to multiple locations at the same time.

My goal is to circulate information to schools on a national level about my workshop on dvd and book.  To accomplish this, I will produce a TV program on cable television to provide schools across the nation information about the workshop on dvd and about my book.  The TV program would be a two-fold informational marketing plan.   First, it will be viewed by an audiences and, secondly, it will be recorded on a dvd that will provide information about the workshop on dvd and the book.  The informational marketing package will be presented in a professional presentation folder.

While my  life has changed since I first began this particular journey in 2008, my dedication to this cause has not changed.  In fact, the desire to speak to the children through my book has increased, thus, my reason for this campaign.  I hope that you will find this to be a worthwhile cause as I do.  Thank you,  To God be the glory.
