We are the Moorhead Friends Writing Group, a small collective of authors from the Fargo–Moorhead region of North Dakota and Minnesota. For years, we’ve lifted each other up—editing, encouraging, and celebrating every story that finds its way into the world.

You can find our books in local stores, regional Barnes & Noble locations, libraries, and online at www.moorheadfriendswritinggroup.com. Among our works are countless anthologies, written together, and many independent books born from the hearts and hands of our members.

Our journey began humbly—with a $1,000 community grant and a shared dream. From that seed came Tales from the Frozen North, our first anthology of short stories. The proceeds from that book funded the next, and then the next, each new project a quiet victory built on teamwork, trust, and shared passion.

Over time, we grew. We packed up our books and set out across the region, setting up tables at fairs and markets, selling our books one conversation at a time. Every tablecloth, every sign, every rack has been a small act of generosity from our members—a collective effort to make our passion visible. We’ve always done what writers do best: we made something out of very little, together.

But recently, our group suffered a heartbreaking setback. While attending MonsterCon in Minot, North Dakota, one of our members, Chris Stenson, had his vehicle and a rented U-Haul stolen. Inside were our displays, supplies, and all of our book inventory. Though the vehicle was later recovered, much of what we built over the years is gone. Chris now bears the cost of the U-Haul, and each of us has lost our personal stock of books—including the group’s anthologies

This was meant to be our busiest season—our time to share stories and connect with readers—but instead, we find ourselves struggling to replace what was taken. Tables, signage, racks—all the simple tools that make it possible for us to show up and share our stories—come at a price that now feels heavy.

It’s disheartening, but we haven’t lost hope. We started with almost nothing once before, and together, we built something beautiful. Now, we’re asking for a little help to begin again—to rebuild our displays, restock our books, and maybe, someday soon, purchase a small trailer of our own.

We believe in stories—the way they heal, connect, and remind us that we’re not alone. And right now, we’re holding onto that belief more tightly than ever.
