We would like to join Julia and her two kids in the celebration of life for Leonard Zugby, who was taken from us far too soon at the age of 50.
Julia first met Leonard in college, back at the University of Arizona. They crossed paths in the Optical Sciences program, where Leonard’s brilliance was immediately apparent. He was an incredibly smart and dedicated individual, always eager to learn, share, and explore new ideas.
One memory that stands out to Julia is when Leonard drove her all the way to Minnesota for an internship. It was a long road trip, but what made it special was that on the way back, they passed through Colorado. They both marveled at its beauty, and it was there that they shared a simple, yet profound thought: “Wouldn’t it be wonderful to live here someday?” It was moments like that—full of possibility and wonder—that made Leonard such a special person to be around.
Leonard’s professional journey led him to Optical Research Associates, the company behind CodeV, now known as Synopsys. For nearly 15 years, that company became like a second family to him and Julia. The colleagues he worked with were more than just coworkers—they were friends, mentors, and companions on a shared journey. https://www.kudoboard.com/boards/zNiVaV6c
Outside of work, Leonard had many passions. He was an avid cyclist, and each year, he routinely participated in the Tour de Tucson, a challenge he looked forward to and enjoyed. But, as much as he loved cycling, his greatest joy was his family. Once he became a father, his world revolved around his kids. He looked forward to spending time with them, taking them to the park on beautiful days, and sharing the things he loved, like teaching them Python and guitar. His love for his children was undeniable, and they were truly his everything.
Leonard also had a passion for movies. He enjoyed discussing and predicting who would win Best Picture, eagerly following the awards season and engaging in conversations about his favorite films. Those moments of enthusiasm and joy for the things he loved will be missed by all who knew him.
Though he is no longer with us, Leonard’s legacy lives on in the memories, laughter, and warmth he shared with his friends and family. His kindness, his intelligence, his love for his children, Julia, and his passion for life will continue to inspire all of us who were lucky enough to know him.
May we carry his memory with us always, honoring him in the ways he lived—with love, with curiosity, and with a heart full of joy.
