Easter Morning Hit and Run

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jennifer. My brother is Jeff Danson. He is a retired draftsman, volunteers with Green Gables and bUneke and lives a very simple life in Florida. On Easter morning, 2022, he woke at 4 a.m. to what he thought was a huge explosion. He looked out his bedroom door and saw the flashing lights from a car that had crashed into his house. In shock, he thought he was dreaming. As he hurried to check out the situation, he became worried about getting too close. What if the car exploded? There were no headlights, just the flashers. He dialed 9-1-1, and two squad cars arrived within minutes. There was a single witness, too afraid to give much info. Jeff lives in a neighborhood known to be less than desirable, what some would call the rough part of town, especially at night. The police contacted the owner of the car, who was intoxicated and lives in Jeff's neighborhood. Interestingly, he said he had reported it as a stolen car at the exact time as when the police arrived at his house. The officers told my brother this man was the registered owner who had a suspended license and no insurance on the vehicle. Please, watch the video, and you will see that Jeff's house has extensive damage. He has no front door! We are asking for help in this emergency to get his house back together and to secure it from not only the weather and Florida’s critters, but also, we need to protect it from vandals because it is not safe. Jeff has no homeowner’s insurance because he can't afford it and the police officers told him he could expect no compensation, no remorse from the drunk driver. Jeff and I really appreciate any help you can provide. We are both heartbroken over this. He just wants help to purchase materials to put his house back together. He needs to replace an exterior door, its frame, a door knob, a lock, one window with frame, create a new wall header, studs, flooring, plaster board, mud and tape, paint, plywood, tar paper, siding, screws, and exterior paint. Am I forgetting anything? My husband, Bob, and I spent most of our Easter Sunday with Jeff, just helping him assess the damage and create a list of the minimum he will need to restore his home. Jeff is still in shock. Can you blame him? His home, like yours, is his castle, but someone has battered down a wall and destroyed part of his castle as well as his sense of safety and security. As soon as Jeff woke us that morning, we drove as fast as we could, for an hour, to bring him plywood, plastic, and tools. Thank goodness we had them in the garage! Stores wouldn’t be open for hours and Jeff needed to start repairs immediately. We are so grateful that you've read this far and watched the video. If you can only spare $5, it will help. Just imagine if this was your home! Even if Jeff had insurance, those wheels move so slowly. His home repairs cannot wait. Your support is greatly and sincerely appreciated.
