Hello Friends and Family,
We would like to present you with information regarding a very special outreach program that we are starting for underprivileged youth in the Orange County area! It is titled the "Shining Stars" Summer Dance Program.
Information About the Program
The “Shining Stars” Summer Dance Program runs from August 10th-15th, 2015 and will provide an opportunity for children from the Santa Ana and Fountain Valley area to participate in a comprehensive week of dance training, culminating in a free performance for their families and the UCI community. The program is directed by UCI undergraduate Irishia Hubbard (Artistic Director) and managed by Nicole Rivor (Administrator), who recently graduated from UCI with the class of 2015.
Our goal for this program is to provide an opportunity for children in the Orange County area to train in various dance techniques in a safe and non-competitive environment. This program is created to support and promote college attendance by giving children the chance to explore future careers in dance and also to create opportunities for UCI undergraduates to develop their teaching practice.
We aim to foster a love for dance and the arts by cultivating an interest in studying dance in a formal learning setting that extends beyond the length of the summer dance program. In order to do so, we will award three exceptional students with scholarships to attend classes at DanceLova, one of best dance studios in the Orange County area.
Our program, and the free showcase at the end, will take place on the UCI campus, with the generosity of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts within UCI. This will provide the children with even more of a hands-on experience with dance in higher education and in one's career.
Why do we need donations?
While we have been extremely fortunate to acquire funding and donations from several sources on and off the UCI campus, we still need more to make this dream a reality! As with all arts outreach programs, there are many costs, which include payment for teachers, a budget for provided food and drinks for the children, the costs for putting on a show, utilities charges for the studios, and more.
All we ask is whatever you wish to donate to our wonderful cause! Anything helps!
Your generous donation will be put towards:
- Showcase Costs
- Chair rental and set-up
- Program printing
- Backstage crew compensation
- Lunches & Drinks for the Children
(These will be provided for the entirety of the program, free of charge)
- Utilities Charges for the Studios
- Air conditioning
- Waste management
- Basic facilities management
