This weekend, my hometown won a state championship in basketball. To do that, we had to play the team from Prairie. At the time of this game, we were strangers, on opposing teams, sitting on opposing benches, all cheering for one to defeat the other. When all was said and done, the teams home, the tears shed, it came to light that one player on that Prairie team was fighting a battle that none of us on the opposing side even knew about. He looked to be a strong, athletic young man, eager to do his best for his town and his team, and that he did. Although the score showed a loss for Prairie, the true battle was just beginning. A star member of their team is fighting for his life. Zaccary "Zacc" Winn has Primary Sclerosing Choangitis and is in need of a liver transplant. Zacc is unable to get on the donor list until his liver gives out. So many expenses are involved with an illness of this magnitude, testing, hospital stays, medication, time off of work, gas, hotels, food...needless to say, it is quickly adding up. Unfortunately, Zacc was admitted to the hospital this weekend after the state tournament.
I don't personally know this young man or his family. I only know that when it would have been so easy to quit, he didn't. He stayed. He fought. I find that to be truly inspiring. Let's make sure he wins this one. Thanks for reading this!
