Hi Everyone.
I wanted to tell you my story. As many know I was diagnosed with T3 N1 esophageal cancer on February 10th. The doctors believe that it was caused by acid reflux. Since the diagnosis I have gone through many tests and now have a plan in place. On February 29th I start radiation and Chemotherapy. The therapy will last for 6 weeks and then I will have 6 weeks off to recover. Then in late May or early June I will have surgery to remove the tumor. What they are going to do is cut out the bottom 2/3 of my esophagus and the top of my stomach and any malignant lymph nodes. They will then stretch my remaining stomach into my chest cavity and reattach it to the esophagus. The recovery will be extensive and most likely take around 3 months. So all in all I am in for a painful fight for the next 6 months.
I am not sure what God is teaching me through this but as many have heard God doesn’t put you through more than you can handle. Although I say this now before the pain starts. Please pray that I will be a good example of his grace and mercy through suffering, to live out 1 Peter.
Knowing that God is in control is comforting and also knowing that he works through our friends and family. This brings me to a point of asking for help. As many of you know I work in financial planning and have many things taken care of for situation like this. Unfortunately, when I switched companies about 8 months ago my disability insurance ended. When I tried to apply for a new policy I was declined because I needed to show a year’s worth of income with Allstate. I was actually getting ready to reapply when the cancer was discovered. As a result we will need a lot of help with our finances over the next 6 months. Our monthly expenses are just over $3500 and I have a $13,000 deductible on our health insurance policy. With all this together we are asking for help in raising $31,000 to cover our expenses for the next 6 months. If you can help in any way we are most grateful.
