Edit, 12/22/2016:
We were evicted two days before Thanksgiving. We managed to get out of the home we'd lived in for almost eleven years in under 9 days, which is nothing if not a miracle.
Currently, we are staying with friends and family, and our cats are being watched by a friend's mother. We're trying to find the next step in our lives--mostly looking for a new place to live.
Today in the mail, I received the bill for our back rent, plus eviction costs, plus the lease break fee.
The total is nearly $5000.
That is obviously far more than we have on hand--and every penny we do have needs to go towards finding a new place to live by January 15th at the latest.
Thank you for all the help you've given in the past. I appreciate it more than I can say.
(Update on the job hunt: I had an interview this week and it went very well. I won't know any more until the end of next week.)
Original post:
Two years ago, I made the decision to leave my day job to focus on writing full time. It wasn't a rash choice--I spent hours going over the numbers to make sure I could live on my royalties.
And I did, for about eight months. Then things changed quickly and unexpectedly, and suddenly I needed a job again. I worked in a college library for eight months, but that temporary position ended in April.
I've been trying--and failing--to find a job since then. What little cushion I saved before the job ended has long since dried up, and my royalties aren't any better now than they were a year ago.
Last month, I barely earned enough royalties to pay July's rent. I have nothing left to pay for utilities, groceries, or gas. August will be even worse, because July's royalties won't even cover rent.
I am asking for help with July and August's living expenses. It is my hope that by mid-August I will have a job that will provide for my needs from there on. The amount I'm asking only covers the bare essentials of rent, utilities, food, and gas. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.
