James Headen Fund

My name is Maurice “Splash” Eastwood. I am a 23 year old senior at CCSU, anticipated graduation Fall 2015. On June 27th, 2015 I organized and hosted my second annual Charity Basketball event (Heat OnThe Street). This event was put together by myself, in attempt to positively bring together the community and for those in attendance to have healthy dialogue amongst each other. One of my primary goals was to collect clothing donations for those less fortunate. I also paid for and gave away bikes and gifts to youth in the community. The event was put financially supported by myself with no outside sponsorship. Through my interactions and conversations with members of BlueHills community they strongly believed that this event was critical for Hartford to show unity, support, and lastly love. People showed up in multitudes to the court to watch the areas top athletes play basket all and compete at a high level.

 

The event was impacted by a negative action from an individual whom was not from that community. As the events founder and promoter I received backlash from the city and categorized in a light that doesn’t represent the overarching vision of my organization. I intend to continue to seek more positive and healthy events for my community to strengthen us. This go fund me is to seek financial support to help me support those affected by the unfortunate act of violence by individuals not associated with the community, sponsor more positive events, provide more resources to those in need and establish a fund to support those families affected by senseless violence. A donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated as I intend to continue to give back to my community and provide opportunities for residents to partake in healthy activities. Thank you.
